About Alexander

I have the unique ability to work effectively with a wide range of student ability from the struggling reader to the advanced, highly motivated, college directed student. For the struggling reader, I have the scientific knowledge base of how to reestablish control of the reading/learning process. I assist this type of student in making the coherent, small steps necessary to regain control of the reading/learning process.

Regarding the highly motivated, college bound student, I have an extensive knowledge of world literature, study skills, and most importantly, the writing skills to assist this type of student to read and write successfully at the college level.

Regarding proofreading or writing for the masters thesis or the doctoral dissertation, I have the research and writing skills necessary to move beyond the theoretical phase into the practical application phase. I can successfully guide a student to come to completion of this most important phase.

There are two qualities that make me an excellent teacher. Firstly, I truly enjoy working with young people and I know how to get them excited about learning. Secondly, I have an extensive knowledge base in three important areas: the struggling reader, Language Arts, and research.

I am easy to get along with. I am persistent when it comes to learning, I make learning fun.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Classics

I hold a Masters Degree in Classics with a specialty in ancient Greek drama and epic. As well, I have served as a dramaturge and director for several Greek tragedies. I have taught Classics at Hunter College in NYC and was director of the Ancient Drama Program at St. Johns College in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Theatre

I worked in the professional theatre as an actor, dancer, director, producer, and dramaturge for twenty years. I continue to direct theatre at my home school. It is an area in which I have a wealth of experience and insight.
