About Tracy

I have my certificates of eligibility from the state of NJ for K-5 and Special Education. I also have a BBA in Business Administration and Legal Studies, a MEd in Educational Leadership, an AS in Aviation Maintenance, and finally I'm a certified veterinary assistant.

I taught as a substitute teacher as a long term sub in Camden, NJ for a year at an elementary school they used to be called Ulysses S. Wiggins and In Burlington, NJ. I guess you can say I did everything at that school from helping students cope with personal issues to making sure that my permanent students didn't fall behind and have to repeat the grade. In a very short period of time I had a few classes of students who always wanted me as their sub. I like to make learning fun, and since I'm ADD I know that not every student learns the same way so I know that sometimes the same topic may need to be taught two or three different ways until the student understands it.

I like doing quick mini projects to make sure that each student has more than one way to absorb the knowledge. I have learned through my 8 yr old son (severe ADHD) that you sometimes need to use several of you senses to truly learn a subject or topic. I also learned through my dad (both parents were teachers) that a good story can leave a lasting impression when taking a test.

For instance, my dad is a wiz at history and political science. I used to ask him for help when I was in grade school and he used to teach me the topic by telling me stories. I might not have remembered what was in my book, but I always aced my tests because I remembered the stories he told me. That's how I teach. I like using out of the box methods to help my students full absorb the topic or subject.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I have my CE from the State of NJ for Special Education. Also, my son has ADHD and I have had ADD since college back in 1996. I had to teach myself how I learned versus how the schools and teachers wanted me to learn. I believe that each student learns differently from each other either by a small degree or a large one. I like to adapt my teaching methods to accommodate those students who might not be getting the materials the way their in school teachers are teaching them.

Business

During my military career I went to school full time, online at Penn State then transferred to Strayer University where I was granted my baccalaureate degree. I earned a BBA in Business Administration and Legal Studies. I graduated with a 3.61 GPA and Cum Laude.

During my whole life I have worked either in retail, restaurants, the military, a teacher, and logistics. I can definitely say that I have had and still have a lot of business experience from being a gas station assistant manager, key holder for Claire's, a bagel shop manager, a clothing store manager and a marketing manager. Thanks to all my jobs since I was 15 years old I have gained a firm hold on business and ethical practices and am confident that I can share my knowledge with students from elementary school through college.

Common Core

I have my K to 5 and Students with disabilities NJ Certificate of Eligibility that I used to teach 1st through 6th graders as a long term substitute teacher in Camden, NJ, and as a substitute teacher in Burlington, NJ. I taught the Common Core materials/curriculum in both districts for over 3 years. I also have my MEd. in Educational Leadership so I learned how to implement and write the curriculum for my students.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have attained my CE from the State of NJ in the area of K-5. I taught in two school districts with both special education student and mainstream students. I also have my Masters degree in Educational Leadership from Strayer University.

Since I am ex-military I took the time after I got out to pursue substitute teaching as a new career. Thankful I was enrolled and graduated from one of the first Troops to Teachers classes held at the education building at Ft. Fix/McGuire/Lakehurst in NJ. So I am certified in the United States to become a full teacher through a districts alternate route program.
