First and foremost, I believe all children can learn and excel, given the right teaching approach. There is something very exciting about helping a child realize their true potential and abilities, and seeing the “a-ha moment” when a new concept is grasped. I love to read and write and believe children can enjoy the world of literature as well, with a combination of fluency modeling and fun, interesting subject matter. My personal approach to teaching involves meeting children at their initial comfort level, tailoring lessons according to their personal interests and including fun, creative activities, encouragement and motivation with high expectations, and a reward system. I tend to think outside the box and teach using multiple disciplines and methods as each child tends to learn differently and this combined method has proven to be the most effective. As far as my education and experience go, I have my BA from the University of South Carolina, I have taken over 100 credit hours in classes involving teaching elementary age students working toward a Masters of Arts in teaching at the College of Charleston. Classroom management, special needs and gifted, subject integration and student motivation techniques were among the highlights. I have also taught intensive reading intervention and cognitive brain training skills to students over the past few years. It is my goal to continue to work with children and help them to see their limitless potential.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
