About Karen

I first learned how to paint with watercolors from my high school art teacher Dennis Dodson. I also majored in Fine Art at the University of Hawaii. I love painting and am passionate about it. I learned how to draw portraits through a private teacher. I also paint with oils and acrylic, but prefer watercolors because they are so difficult. I am inspired by such artists as John Singer Sargent, Toulouse Latrec and Degas. I have shown my work in all of the outdoor art shows in Florida except for Coconut Grove. I have had shows from Honolulu to London. I have taught children how to draw and paint.

My daughter was an art major at the University of Alabama. She learned how to draw and paint from me. She is already working in the field and has an internship with the design company Tracy Reese in New York for the summer. I think that speaks highly of my teaching abilities. When I taught my daughter how to draw I encouraged her to think outside the box. A tree is not a brown trunk with a green ball on top. A tree can be orange and blue, purple and yellow (complimentary colors) or anything one can imagine. I try to get my students to visualized a painting in their head and then let it flow out their hand. I work with vibrant colors and encourage using different mediums in one painting. I am passionate about paining which shows in my work. I have painted a series of women passionate about things like champagne, jewelry, flowers, chocolates, etc. I have sold all of my work except for three favorite paintings that hang in my home. I hope that I can help a young mind find his or her talent.

I am a radio news broadcaster and have a degree in Journalism from the University of Hawaii. I am well versed in public speaking and in writing and the speaking English language. I have been in television and radio broadcasting for thirty years. I currently teach foreign students how to speak and write English. I am an excellent proofreader. I am helping an FBI agent get his Master's Degree.
