About Brent

Brent is a graduate of Cedarville University in Ohio, completing a Bachelor's degree in biology in 2005. After spending time in New Orleans helping victims of Hurricane Katrina, Brent began a graduate degree in biomedical research at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee in 2008. He recently completed his Ph.D. and is a professional tutor and corporate analyst in Palm Beach County. Brent enjoys exploring his surroundings, visiting gardens, parks, neighborhoods, and city centers. Brent enjoys collecting airline miles and planning his next frugal travel adventure.

Brent has tutored from an early age, beginning with his family. In college, he was hired by his university to tutor his peers and younger students. More recently, he has taught GRE prep courses for Kaplan and graduate-level biology research classes. Brent's teaching style encourages students, whenever possible, to avoid memorizing answers; he instead leads his students through a logical explanation of the answer to help with retention.

As a tutor, Brent uses all possible resources, including parents, the student, reports and old tests from school, and classroom notes, to help him understand the student's personality, style of learning, and relative strengths and weaknesses. He then modifies the course of study to best suit the student's needs. He greatly enjoys helping and watching a student gain confidence in him or herself. He can travel to your preferred location, and he is able to help students in college math and a wide range of jr. high/high school level subjects, including math, biology, English, essay writing, SAT, and others. He also tutors in use of computers and office programs.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Microsoft Windows

I have been tutoring people in the various versions of Microsoft Windows since 2001. I try to help people understand the logic behind the menu systems so that they are able to logically find a function when they don't remember how they accessed it previously. I usually do one-on-one sessions at the computer. I also can help with diagnosing and modifying system functions such as network access, file system, Control Panel, printers, and external hard drives in Windows 7 and previous versions.
