About James

I am a trained physician, although not completed my residency, who loves teaching/tutoring and have done so since I was in high school. I am highly experienced, professional and quite patient. I've taught students at all levels and from all walks of life, including medical, nursing, graduate, undergraduate, and high school students. In addition, I have tutored middle school students, as well as elementary and kindergarten students.

Moreover, I provide exceptional tutoring services to students of all ages and skill levels and specialize in creating tailor-made solutions for all types of learners. I offer several specific types of tutoring (such as back to basics, study skills, etc.) and customize my session (s) to meet the needs of each unique student.

MCAT Prep (FYI): I am very familiar with the new MCAT and have tutored students for the new MCAT since it began in 2015. In fact, as a trained physician, I like the new test better than the old one because it's geared, mainly, towards medical school unlike previously. Now, many, if not most, of the topics covered on the new MCAT and/or are expected to know will be covered in some of your medical school courses (so learn them well); and the test set up is very similar to the USMLE, which is the boards that all medical students take and must pass before they are licensed to practice medicine.

Lastly, I teach CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant), HHA (Home Health Aide), CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), CEU's (Continuing Education Units), CME's (Continuing Medical Education units), In-services, etc. YOUR SATISFACTION IS 100% GUARANTEED OR YOU MONEY BACK!!!!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ASVAB

I have a lot of experience in teaching and have, for many years, prepared many of my students for the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB), which includes the four critical areas: the Arithmetic Reasoning, Word Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension and Mathematics Knowledge, as well as the other areas of the ASVAB.

Chemistry

I've had a 20+ year teaching career in chemistry and have taught students from all background. I have also worked in many other fields involving chemistry, such as organic photosystems, medicinal chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacology, etc. I am a professional, very patient, and a visual learner; and so, often, I use visual aids, such as charts, tables, images to explain the concepts, particularly complex ones.

ESL/ESOL

I have a lot of experience in teaching and have taught English as a second language (including ESOL and EFL) for more than 4 years.

MCAT

I've been tutoring the MCAT since 2001. I am a professional, very patient, and use a step-by-step, highly individualized study plan for each student. I provide study materials to my students, such as notes, practice questions, study tips/skills, etc. Many of my students have scored 520+ on the new MCAT and well over 30 on the old MCAT.

NCLEX

I've been teaching nursing students and tutoring the NCLEX since 2010. I am a professional, very patient, and use a step-by-step, highly individualized study plan. I provide study materials to my students, such as notes and practice questions, and I help them develop good test taking strategies, as well as critical thinking. Many of my students have passed the NCLEX on their first attempt.

Nursing

I've been teaching nursing students since 2010. I am a professional, very patient, and use a step-by-step, highly individualized study plan. I provide study materials to my students, such as notes, charts and practice questions; I also help them develop good test taking strategies, as well as critical thinking.

Organic Chemistry

I have a solid background in organic chemistry and 17+ years of teaching experience in both organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry. I enjoy teaching/tutoring it and was a TA (Teaching Assistant) for several years in graduate school. I am a professional, very patient, and a visual learner; and so, I often use visual aids, such as charts, tables, images to explain the concepts, particularly complex ones.

Pharmacology

I believe I am qualified to tutor this subject because I have been tutoring pharmacology for many years now. Also, I am currently teaching it at a nursing school. And, I have, in the past, taught to numerous nursing/pre-nursing students through WyzAnt. Lastly, I am a resident doctor and have taken numerous pharmacology courses.

Praxis

I have a lot of experience in teaching and preparing students for the Praxis Subject Test. The Praxis test is a "content driven" test, which tests their (students)understanding of what they have already learned. So, in my preparation, I cover the major content areas on the exam and give them the opportunity to practice and test their knowledge on a set of questions, which allows them to reinforce their strengths and improve their weaknesses.

Special Needs

I have been teaching for over 17 years and have worked with many diverse types of learners. I was a Special Education teacher for many years in Boston, MA, and have worked with all ages and taught at all levels. During these experiences, I worked with students with a range of disabilities including Autism, learning disability, ADHD, communication disorder, multiple disabilities, etc. I have experience using a range of curriculum, including Words Their Way, SPIRE, Foundations, Guided Reading, Leveled Literacy Intervention, Writing Workshop, Reading Workshop, etc. I also have experience with a range of assessments.

I am very passionate for the education field and constantly enjoy learning more about how to help students grow in life. In order to create an atmosphere where students can build a love for learning, I believe it is important to have education be fun and engaging . Also, I strong believe that instruction should be based on the student's, interests, needs and learning style. So, I've tried to include hands-on and multi-sensory learning.

Study Skills

I have a lot of experience (10+ years) in teaching and in developing study guides/strategies, such as taking tests, managing your time, meeting challenges, studying, learning, memorizing, etc.

Tax Preparation

I do Individual and Small Business Income Tax Return Preparation, and I have more than 7 years of experience in this business. I believe, strongly, old-fashioned good service and concern for the client as a person is simply good business.

TEAS

I believe I am qualified to tutor this subject because I have been tutoring the TEAS for many years now. Also, I am currently teaching it at a nursing school. And, I have, in the past, prepared many pre-nursing students for the test through WyzAnt. Lastly, I've tutored/taught all of the subjects that are covered on the TEAS.

USMLE

I have a Medical Degree with 9+ years of USMLE teaching experience; I Have taught Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Pathophysiology, Cardiology, Histology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, etc. Also, I have 19+ years of tutoring experience and have taught in some of the major Universities across the country.

Truly Inspiring!

Dr. James is a brilliant and inspiring man who was very patient, helpful, and supportive. I found friendship, guidance, and knowledge in Dr. James. Without Dr. James, I would've never passed the TEAS test. Wherever I may go in my life, I will always remember that I had an excellent guide in the form of a teacher. I thank Dr. James for inspiring me to become like him some day.
