My husband and I recently moved to Venice from St. Pete as he took a nursing job at the hospital here. I taught middle and high school in St. Petersburg for almost 4 years at a private school. Prior to that I lived and worked in the political sector in D.C. I love learning and teaching and share my passion for both. I enjoy tutoring and am familiar working and teaching all ages as I worked as a daycare teacher during college to help pay for my schooling. There I worked with toddlers and K-5.
I have a knowledge of and proficiency in history (world: ancient and modern), government and civics, international relations, English, writing, and Math (previously taught Algebra and Geometry).
My favorite moment in teaching is that moment you see the "light bulb" go on, be it because of understanding or intrigue. Knowledge truly is the key and I enjoy helping open the doors.
I understand that there are many different learning styles and as such I am patient in helping students find processes of understanding that best suit them and I enjoy the process of finding the solution and making math not so scary.
I love writing and have always been active in editing my own and other's work. I have written professionally for years and also wrote press releases during my time in politics.
History and government are truly my passion. There is so much truth in the saying "history repeats itself," and for this reason I love teaching the past so that today's young minds and future leaders can avoid the mistakes of the past. History is essential and in every subject there is history; the history of our language, of mathematics, when and how scientific discoveries were made, etc.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
