Having graduated with a degree in Computer Programming, Accounting and a minor in Electronics, I have run a small computer business that caters to Networking, Programming, Repair and Consulting for the over 25 years now. Many of my customers have been with me over the lifetime of this business. I have written two books on computers and taught classes for college as well as children's life enrichment programs.
• Networking includes internal as well as internet connections as well as security and WAN (Wide Area Networks).
• Computer consulting includes best strategies of computer setup, data needs as well as software needs, best peripherals and integration with outside components (i.e. bar code scanners, gate/door operations, POS, camera systems, phone systems)
• Repair includes setup of computer and peripherals, software troubleshooting, OS troubleshooting, hardware troubleshooting, upgrading hardware and software, replacing parts, transferring data via multiple channels, rescuing data from troubled media (hard drives, flash drives, CD/DVD's), virus detection and removal, networking issues.
• Programming includes cross-platform work that allows software to run across devices including Windows, Macintosh, iPad, iPhone and via Internet Website, each designed to operate together but appropriate for the device/platform. These programs can work with outside software to integrate software to be useful to the user beyond boxed packages (i.e. Word Processing, Spreadsheet software, Photo enhancing software, Accounting software), but mainstream enough to work with other people. Software has been made to operate with email, database systems, cameras, video, phone systems, POS, gates/doors, specialty printer setup and the web.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am good with page layout having worked in it for many years, including Quark and the old Adobe PageMaker. I also moderate the Photoshop World convention where I have worked with Terry White from Adobe in giving a class in InDesign. In my experience I have used InDesign for books, catalogs, flyers, forms and documents. From flowing pages of text, to graphics that require text to flow in and around text, to page numbering and indexes, as well as output to printer or file, I can help individuals with their document layout needs.
I've worked in various programming languages for a number of companies over the years. They have ranged from object-oriented, coded or scripted. Some of the languages I've worked in include Visual Basic, Basic, COBOL, FoxPro, DBase, FileMaker, HTML, AppleScript and RPG, among some in several other languages. I have specialized in databases and integration with such software utilizing SQL, DBase, FileMaker, Btrieve, Access, FoxPro and text data files, whether sequential or random access. I've worked with teams on software building as well as created complete packages on my own. They have been individual software design as well as multi-user, using record locking and commitment of data entered. This software has been in range of functions, but have been emphasized on the accounting side. They include order entry, accounts receivable, ordering kiosks, security software, catalog production, customer relationship management, point of sale, real estate tracking and sales, inspection software, quote taking, project management, membership and form fill-out, among many others. I've integrated with 3rd party software as well as encompassed it within the software I've written.
As with my qualification for Adobe InDesign, I have worked with Desktop Publishing from the layman MS Publisher and Apple Pages to the professional of Quark, PageMaker and InDesign. Using them, I've created catalogs for companies, books for publishers, documents for various businesses and non-profits, as well as forms and advertisement. I have design experience in a range from flowing text from page to page or flowing in, around, or through graphics; to numbering pages, headers, footers and title pages.
I have been with working with Macintosh computers in both hardware and software since 1986. I've written Macintosh articles for trade magazines, been an Apple dealer during the 90's and continue to be one of the best known experts on the platform. I've fixed the hardware, taught the operating system, setup servers, networked them with PC's, taught the software and used them for all sorts of projects. I've created software programs that operate on the Macintosh platform and have the special tools for working on anything from laptops to desktops. I've integrated them with bar code readers, cash drawers, camera systems, plotters, plate printing, a variety of networks as well as many other devices.
Beyond the regular networking of creating cables, routers, switches, DNS servers and wireless, I also am able to VPN setup and secure connections. I know TCP/IP infrastructure as well as the different protocols and services such as SNMP, UPnP, Bonjour, SMB, Appletalk and NetBIOS. I have also set up and maintained many different types of servers ranging from Windows (various versions), Mac OS X server, Linux and print servers. I can map networks and have a defined setup routine used for IP numbering. I'm proficient with sharing devices over network and know the limitations as well as the different styles of cabling (copper line, fiber, 802.11x as well as microwave signal wiring and cellular, Bluetooth and even USB networking.)
Along with my degree in Accounting, I am an Intuit partner. I work in both the PC and Macintosh version of Quickbooks and have even wrote software that interacts with Quickbooks proactively allowing for very fast order entry that is brought into Quickbooks as an invoice and prints it's own Purchase Order/Delivery ticket in the shipping department while instructing Quickbooks to send out the invoice it was signaled to create. Beyond doing my own company's Quickbooks and taxes, I also help others that aren't proficient in the software or accounting practices. I also help non-profit organizations as Treasurer and work with accounting offices in submitting information from client's Quickbooks or helping them with corrupt data files or networking issues on multiuser versions of Quickbooks. I also have clients and work with Quickbooks POS.
Working with the more widely known video production software such as Final Cut from Apple and Adobe Premier, I have put together infomercials, tutorials, presentations and CD/ DVD's of video as well as YouTube/ web for many customers, non-profits, as well as myself. On the smaller side of video, I've also worked with iMovie. I know the importing of video from camera, the color ranges to work in, the best timing for scene to keep interest and how to work with existing video to create longer, more involved segments that require adjusting of sounds and tracks to make a fluid presentation. I also know about compression encoding and decoding, so that the video can be played in the intended environments using the best amount of space and playback, without losing clarity and quality of video or sound.
