(1) University of South Florida (Mechanical Engineering)
I am an undergraduate student majoring in mechanical engineering in the Honors College at the University of South Florida in Tampa. I graduated high school in 2017 from Hillsborough High School's International Baccalaureate program. I have worked with youth from ages 2-14 as a counselor at Berkeley High School's Fine Arts camps and I frequently led tutoring sessions in high school for math. I continue leading tutoring sessions in college for Calculus 1 and General Chemistry.
My philosophy in tutoring is to make sure that the student understands the material as opposed to simply memorizing it. While a student may not be gifted in a specific subject or area, with dedication and the right mindset they may find they excel those gifted in a specific area. I cannot make you learn the material, nor can I change your mindset about learning. With this in mind, with the right attitude I will assist in any way possible.
I have worked with students of all ages and different learning styles. In my experience as a counselor for the Fine Arts camp at Berkeley High School I have worked with various age groups. I am patient and understand that certain methods do not work for everyone and can adjust the methods so long as it is not something specific to their curriculum. I am able to break down complex problems into simple concepts.
I will meet with students at the USF library for safety purposes. I am available Mon, Tues, and Thurs after 3 and Wed after 7. Weekend tutoring can be scheduled upon request. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I can tutor both elementary math and reading as I have a younger sister who is currently in elementary school. I've helped her with all her work when she asks and I grade some of her assignments over summers.
I'm currently taking Calculus 1 with a 103% grade and I have held tutoring sessions in high school and currently for math classes. I also enjoy doing logic and math based puzzles in my spare time.
