About Monique

Over the past 15 years I have taught Spanish as a high school teacher, an adjunct university professor, and as a private tutor to individuals and small groups. I earned my Bachelor of Arts and Master of Applied Linguistics and Teaching degrees from the University of Illinois at Chicago and am currently employed as a full-time high school Spanish teacher and in my local school district. I have also taught on contract at a local community college and bilingual university. I believe anyone can learn a foreign language with the right instructional strategies, and this belief is reflected in my teaching style and in the positive results achieved with hundreds of students over the years.

Whether you need help with grammar, reading and writing, specialized vocabulary, basic conversational skills or building and sustaining fluency, I can customize a learning program for you. Lesson options and rates include individual and group, and I am available weekday evenings and/or on weekends. I look forward to helping you learn Spanish!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Microsoft Excel

Over the past 15 years I have taught Basic Computer Skills and Microsoft Office courses (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) in both private training corporations as well as in the School District of Hillsborough County, Florida where I am currently employed as full-time High School Spanish teacher and part time Computer Skills instructor in the Adult Education program. I initially majored in Computer Science at the University of Wisconsin, Madison before transferring to the University of Illinois at Chicago to obtain my bachelor’s degree and ultimately earning a master’s degree in Spanish Applied Linguistics and Teaching. Finally, I have freelance experience in computer repair (mainly removing viruses and setting up and troubleshooting small networks). In summary, I excel at and love teaching languages of all kinds, whether human or computer!
