I have a passion for working with and teaching young children. I have two years of experience teaching kindergarten, as well as two years experience in kindergarten and fourth grade during my college internship.
While employed as a certified teacher in Hillsborough County, and during my internship, I spent many hours giving students one-one-one instruction in both kindergarten and fourth grade classes. Working with students in this capacity allows for the teacher and student to develop a unique relationship, similar to that of coach and athlete. The student gradually opens up and trusts the teacher more and more, thus allowing the teacher to learn the student's learning style, frustration level, and motivators.
Often, student's develop temporary "holes" in their understanding when a teacher moves too quickly in their instruction. Tutoring can help fill those holes and improve a student's confidence in class.
I have experience working with students who are not self motivated and need some gentle guidance. I find it most rewarding when a student realizes how large their capacity to learn really is.
My passion is Reading. It's the subject I am most thrilled to teach and spend the most hours planning for. I have a solid understanding of a variety of skills to teach reading, vocabulary acquisition, and comprehension that will apply to all elementary grades.
I have a solid understanding of the handwriting process required in Hillsborough County. There is a research-based process that begins with specific letters. I use different techniques and mediums to help my student's increase their understanding of the stroke formations, while also making it fun and engaging!
My current school requires 75 minutes of phonics instruction per day. I have a solid understanding of phonemic awareness and phonics (and the difference between the two). I have an extensive supply of hands-on, research based activities to fill those "gaps" in areas including: rhyme, onset and rime, beginning, middle, and ending sounds, phoneme substitution, letter recognition, sight words, and more!
I have always loved helping others. I can't wait to set goals and see what we can achieve together! I have a passion for working with and teaching young children. I have two years of experience teaching kindergarten, as well as two years experience in kindergarten and fourth grade during my college
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
