About Tiffany

I am currently a forensic science major at The University of Tampa. I have done peer tutoring for math, English, and science through the National Honor Society, and have found that teaching others brings me great joy. I have also volunteered at AFCAAM, a charity for underprivileged elementary school age children in my community. I love being able to help students make connections between concepts and have the confidence to solve problems on future homework assignments and assessments.

High school math and science can be hard, but I aim to help students be able to understand these complex ideas and break them down into manageable pieces. While in high school, I took all honors and AP level classes and made the honor roll every semester. Now in college, I am on the dean's list. I strive to make every student's learning experience with me a positive one.

I specialize in math, specifically algebra, reading and writing skills, and science. I will assign extra work for students to complete in order to solidify their understanding of key concepts, and will provide feedback to both the parent and the student through progress reports and assessments. It is important to me that anyone I tutor has a complete understanding of a concept before moving on and building upon said concept.

I have always had high grades in math, and I especially love algebra and calculus. I see math as a second language, and once one understands the basics of any language, he or she is able to build upon those basics. I have experience with tutoring elementary level mathematics in an informal setting, as well as peer tutoring fellow students in higher-level mathematics.

As an avid reader, proper grammar and sentence structure have come naturally for me, as well as superb reading comprehension skills. These are evidenced by my scores of 35 (out of 36) in the English and the reading sections of the ACT. I have volunteered my time helping disadvantaged elementary school students read and complete English homework through weekly one-hour sessions. I also have experience proofreading and editing essays and papers and would be willing to negotiate a special rate based on the length of the text.

As previously stated, I am currently a forensic science major. In high school, I took both AP Biology and AP Chemistry classes and subsequently passed both AP tests. I have also taken college courses in those disciplines. I have also had experience in creating science fair presentations and can assist in the preparation for these.

I am available most evenings from 4 to 8 and prefer to tutor at a library or other public place in downtown Tampa, or online through Wyzant. My base rate is $20/hour, but the rate can be negotiated if circumstances allow. As a courtesy, a cancellation fee will be assessed if the student is more than 15 minutes late for a scheduled lesson. While I don't have professional experience, I am a dedicated student who wants to lead others to academic success.

I look forward to communicating with you and helping you or your child succeed!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1 is the first real stepping stone of higher mathematics. I earned an A in the course when I took it and built upon those skills in higher level high school math courses.

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 builds upon the skills learned in algebra 1. I earned an A in the course when I took it and built upon those skills in higher level high school math courses, such as AP calculus.

Biology

I have taken both honors-level and AP-level biology courses in high school, as well as general biology in college. I will further my education throughout the next few years with more college biology courses. Upon taking the AP test, I earned a score of 4 (out of 5), earning myself college credit.

Elementary Math

Elementary math is the first stepping stone to understanding mathematics as a whole. By building a strong foundation in the basic concepts of math, students are able to build upon their knowledge. I have received A's in all of my high school honors math classes, which include algebra 2, geometry, statistics, and AP calculus AB. Previous students of mine have more confidence when practicing their math skills, which has been shown by high grades on school assessments.

Elementary Science

I am a forensic science major at the University of Tampa. I have taken both honors and AP level science courses, which include biology, chemistry, physics, and anatomy, and have had As in all, in addition to passing the AP tests. I believe that establishing a strong scientific background in elementary school enables a student to thrive in higher level courses.

Prealgebra

I have taken and received A's in pre-algebra. By mastering pre-algebra, I have been able to continue my studies in higher level mathematics. I have tutored students in pre-algebra and they have succeeded in their classes.

Precalculus

Precalculus combines skills learned in algebra 2 and geometry to prepare the student for calculus. I earned an A in the course when I took it and built upon those skills in higher level high school math courses, such as AP calculus. Upon taking the AP test, I earned a score of 4 (out of 5), earning myself college credit.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor!

Tiffany worked with my son to tackle his Algebra I assignments. I appreciated how she encouraged him to figure out the problems for himself and helped him if he struggled on a step or with a concept. She explained terms in the problems he did not understand and even introdruced new relevent material. He already feels more confident in his ability to perform on his quizzes and tests. I am excited
