About Jose

I am a National Merit winner (perfect score) and a former Princeton Review Premier Tutor and Master Trainer (that means I taught teachers how to teach). Tired of boring lectures and one size fits none approaches? Then I am your solution! I tailor lessons to my students' needs in a fun and engaging way. I like to have fun during my sessions, so I try to incorporate all sorts of pop culture references to make certain that the concepts stick. Whether you are a low scoring student or an Ivy league candidate, together we can formulate a strategy to help you attain your goals. Being a good test taker is all about learning the most efficient approaches to questions. I can help show you different strategies for each aspect of your test. If you have issues with time management, we will formulate a plan that will allow you to move through the sections seamlessly. It is my job to adapt to you, not the other way around.

I have been a professional tutor for the last ten years. I specialize in standardized testing: SAT, ACT, GMAT, GRE, and LSAT. I also help with college applications as well as college essays. I scored in the 98 percentile or above on all the tests I teach. As a graduate student, I taught Latin American Civilization at the University of South Florida. Accolades aside, a teacher's true worth is based on the success of his or her students. With that in mind, my students have been accepted by some of the most prestigious universities: Harvard, Duke, MIT, Cal Tech, Oxford, La Sorbonne, and Pomona just to name a few.

I also can help with academic tutoring: Geometry, Algebra I and II, English, History, and more. I can help you develop effective study habits which will give you the confidence to thrive in your course work. I love what I do and I feel that you will also love our lessons together (sorry the Alpaca will not be present at our sessions).

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

I scored a 36 (perfect) on the ACT English section and have been tutoring the ACT for the past ten years. For this section, I focus on the seven or eight grammar rules that this section constantly tests students on. I employ a fun and energetic style that allows students to see concepts in a much simpler form.

ACT Math

I scored a 36 (perfect) on this section of the ACT and have been tutoring this test for the last ten years. I bring a unique perspective that allows my students to see the most efficient way to solve ACT problems. I cater my lessons to my specific students and I am constantly adapting to the style that best fits whomever I am teaching. My lessons are fun and energetic, but most importantly, my students crush their tests!

LSAT

I scored a 173 and a 171 on the two official lasts I have taken. As a former Princeton Review premiere tutor, I have taught countless of one on one sessions and group courses. I have taught students of all types and of varying interests and score aspirations. It is always my goal to simplify the complexities of the LSAT into a fun and engaging discussions/lesson. But most importantly, my students consistently raise their scores.

SAT Math

I scored a perfect SAT and am a National Merit winner. Previously, I worked as a premier tutor for Princeton Review. I also was a master trainer for the SAT: I taught the new teachers how to teach. I know the test inside and out which allows me to show all types of students the various strategies and tricks that will help them maximize their scores.

SAT Reading

I am a National Merit Winner and earned a perfect score on the SAT. In fact, I have taken the SAT three times and scored 800 on the reading every time! But ultimately what truly matters are the results my students have had, and their scores have been just as impressive. I have designed my own approach to the SAT reading section and can cater a style to suit anyone's skill sets. High achiever? Average test taker? Low scorer? It doesn't matter! With over ten years of experience, I have helped students of all types!

SAT Writing

I scored a perfect SAT and am a National Merit winner. Previously, I worked as a premier tutor for Princeton Review. I also was a master trainer for the SAT: I taught the new teachers how to teach. I have a specific plan to tackle the most common grammar issues that arise in the sat as well as an effective strategy to address the essay. I basically help students have a great plan of attack and how to recognize the predictable pattern of this test.
