Yes, I have an extensive experience in both, teaching and tutoring. I've been teaching and tutoring university level students and postgraduates, as well as foreign professionals back in Russia, then in Canada and now here, in Florida.
I like helping students to learn and/or upgrade their previous knowledge of all aspects of the Russian language: their conversational skills, listening comprehension, how to read and write in Russian. Any language is evolving and changing through the time. Russian language is not an exception. If somebody wishes to effectively communicate with Russians today that person has to learn some everyday spoken Russian that is not the same as in the textbooks. Cultural, historical and geographic aspects have been also included in my Russian language lessons.
I am a native speaker of Russian with a solid basis of the language studies. I am constantly working on updating my teaching skills of Russian. For a student, it means that I teach her/him Russian of the today's Russia.
As a language tutor, I am always fascinated with the results my students achieve starting from lesson 1. The contents of my Russian language course are always being adjusted to the linguistic needs and language level of a student.
Despite the differences in the alphabet, Russian is not as scary and hard to learn as you can think of it. I will guide you through and you will see it for yourself. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I think that I am qualified to tutor in this subject because I am a native speaker of Russian and fluent in English. I've been working as professional interpreter and translator from Russian to English, and from English to Russian.
I studied comparative linguistics that gave me a clear understanding of the grammatical difficulties that English speaking students experience while learning Russian.
Based on my professional degrees, I have been also teaching and tutoring Russian as a foreign language to the university level students and postgraduates back in St. Petersburg, Russia, then in Ottawa, Canada and here, in South Florida.
I hold a Temporary, 5-year, Teaching Certificate from Broward School Board that allows me to teach Russian as a Foreign language to Adults here in Florida.
