University of South Florida (Civil Engineering)
Hi! My name is Megan W. and I am currently a first year engineering student at the University of South Florida. I am a recent graduate from East Lake High School’s Academy of Engineering and have graduated summa cum laude. During my high school career, I have participated in my school’s FIRST robotics team and have volunteered as a tutor and a mentor at Highland Lakes Elementary and Tarpon Springs Middle School.
I have primarily tutored students in S.T.E.M. (science, technology, engineering, and math), and a bit in reading and writing. I have also helped prepared students for the FCAT writing exams. My goal in tutoring is to help the student to better understand the subject they are studying and to help them become more confident with it. My approach to tutoring is to assess baseline skills and provide simple, structured, step-by-step instructions for areas of need. I appreciate parent input about learning goals for the tutoring session, I demonstrate concepts using concrete and tangible models such as simple objects or drawings. I welcome questions and answer them with age-appropriate explanations. I also will support the student in doing drills and repetition of skills in order to firmly establish and assess understanding. I will also provide sample test questions for review.
I would appreciate feedback for tutoring sessions as I would like nothing more than to improve myself to be a better tutor for the students. I am also willing to work with the parents to find a time that better fits them to tutor their son or daughter, or to help reschedule a session if needed to. I do ask to be given a cancellation notice at least within the 24 hours prior to the tutoring session.
Personally, I would prefer to meet with the student at a public place such as a library, or locations such as Panera Bread or Starbucks. If the parent would much rather the session be held in their home, I would not oppose to doing such but I would like to meet the parent and student before doing so.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping your child succeed in their studies! Hi! My name is Megan W. and I am currently a first year engineering student at the University of South Florida. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
