About Phillip

My name is Phillip and I am a recent graduate of Ringling College of Art and Design. I studied Illustration, drawing, painting , and graphic design. I love history, politics, economics and social skills. I am currently in the process of becoming a coffee snob.

Well, my mum teaches ASL in the public high school as a foreign language requirement. So guess who took four years of American Sign Language in high school as a result! This guy. Seriously though, I gained a fuller understanding of the culture because I grew up signing the basics with my mom and she had deaf friends we would meet up with every now and then. I experienced more of the culture outside of the classroom than my classmates who only had an hour-long course.

Well, me pops is a pastor! (You see there's a theme). Yes, when I wasn't signing with deaf people I was sitting on the front pew watching the man spew forth bible-based preaching and teaching. It wasn't until I was in high school that I realized I knew a lot about the Bible, more than most kids my age, and its always something that I felt rounded out who I am as a person. If I didn't have a whole corner of my brain filled with Bible knowledge, it'd probably just be empty space.

I went to art school for 4 years where I received a ton of one-on-one training from the teachers since the school had such small class sizes. And when you do nothing but draw, paint and ideate all day for four years, it really makes a difference.

I've been playing guitar since I was 9, and so I've got 13 years of experience. And it wasn't enough for me to just learn how to play the guitar, I had to go and read about the greats; Hendrix, Clapton, Page. And after you learn about the greats, you wanna figure out what it was that made them so great (i.e., "who was Clapton looking at?"), and so you find guys like Robert Johnson, Son House, a lot of old Blues guitar guys, folk guitar guys, and the history just keeps going back. There's nothing more enjoyable for me than talking music history.

Hit me up. I'm a glass half full, but, at 6'1, I'm a tall glass. If I were an average sized glass I'd be full. Maybe even overflowing.
