In college I wanted to write the "Great American Novel" so my undergraduate degree is in English with a minor in Psychology. Instead I joined the Air Force and flew airplanes for a living, traveled the world, and loved every day of 21 years as an officer! I'm still waiting to write that novel! I obtained a Master's degree in Public Administration--think MBA but for people who work in the government (MPA). I have been teaching as an adjunct faculty for University of Phoenix in their business school since 2004. I love face-to-face time with my students. My current career is with United States Central Command (CENTCOM) so I still have the opportunity to serve my country in a new way, and still get to travel a bit too. I speak a little bit of German having learned some in high school and college and having lived in Frankfurt for four years but I take every chance I get to practice what little I know. I raised three kids all of whom are college graduates, so while I may not have tutoring in my background, I promise you I have thousands of hours at the kitchen table with my kids on my resume!
My opinion is, and I tell each of my undergraduate students in the first week of class, that being able to write effectively is even more important today than it ever was! We meet people through email, and some people I have dealt with for years but have never met in person. So being able to clearly communicate thoughts, ideas, directions, orders, etc. is extremely important. Working for a four-star general and dealing with people at senior governmental levels, effective and accurate communication is critical. I look forward to any opportunity that may come my way to help you succeed, because really that is what it is ultimately all about! Robert is helping me improve my ASVAB scores and I have faith in him teaching me in the weeks to come.
Robert is helping my son with word problems and English. My son really likes the way Robert is helping him learn.
Thank you and thanks to your son also. I really want to get his scores high enough for him to join the Army. I loved my military career! Bob
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
For 21 years, as a military officer and leader, it was one of my duties to mentor my airmen in career choices and development, but more importantly, in life choices. As an undergraduate faculty instructor who deals with many middle-aged, mid-level career adults, I spend a reasonable amount of time helping them to make good and advantageous career choices.
Majored in English Literature (undergraduate) and currently teach communications courses for Univ of Phoenix. I've been published and I also tutor test prep for SAT and ASVAB, which both have vocabulary as well as comprehension sections.
I have personally given presentations to audiences large and small that have included Ambassadors, Secretarial-level VIPs, four-star generals, and average people. I was key note speaker at an international conference. As a platform instructor for the Air Force and now University of Phoenix, I am often in front of a group. I also teach, as one of my Phoenix courses, Business Communications, where tools and techniques to be used when giving presentations, the types of presentations you can give, and presentation skills are all taught.
