I have been teaching for over 15 years. I have also been a language learner for over 30 years. I enjoy the experience of helping students learn language through many different techniques. Learning should be interesting, exciting, and target-language based. We learn best through communication and through shared exchange. I have taught in many different countries. I have taught many age ranges, and have enjoyed teaching to a wide variety of students. While abroad I worked with international companies, the European Union, and private students. I was the director of a children's school and have been involved in developing curriculum for both young and old, academic and professional. I look forward to meeting new students and love to teach.
I started my profession tutoring at the University of South Florida where I received a B.A. in Anthropology and focused in linguistics. After I graduated, I moved to Leipzig, Germany and worked for several companies for 7 years. In these companies, I worked with bankers, doctors, business associates, sales people, and many other skilled workers. I took a position as the director of the children's school for Berlitz from 2002 until 2005 when I returned to the Sates. I was in charge of curriculum development, class design, and training. During this time, I had many opportunities to continue my education in ESL. I received the LCCI Cambridge certification, and a certificate in European Office Management. Since I have returned to Tampa, I have taught for Eckerd College, ELS at the University of Tampa, and have been at Hillsborough Community College since 2008. I have enjoyed teaching English for Academic purposes. I look forward to teaching many different students. I have been teaching for over 15 years. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
