Florida International University (FIU) (B.A. in Chemistry)
Dear scholar, you have come to the right place. The WyzAnt community is full of highly competitive and professional tutors that share a genuine interest in helping you succeed. I humbly consider myself one of them. My ultimate goal is not only to empower you to score higher, to master challenging course material or to gain an edge in your study skills, but also to become a self-powered, effective and audacious student capable of accomplishing all of your current and future academic goals. As a seasoned science tutor and current medical student, I will share with you my unique secrets to developing an enriching and productive intellectual life. The journey of the science student is very demanding and full of obstacles, but I strongly believe that every person has the potential to push through and reach their destination. That's right! The only one who can stop you is yourself. In addition, by teaming up with a knowledgeable and motivating mentor (like me) you will get that extra push needed to transform your potential energy (feeling you can do it) into kinetic energy (actually doing it)!
My teaching style is dynamic rather than passive by encouraging and demanding student participation, note taking, self-reflection/feedback, inductive reasoning and critical thinking. By doing so, I will help you to increase your academic confidence and to calibrate your study abilities in order to perform at an exceptionally high level. Ultimately, I use the following strategies: (1) teach effective study skills and memory tricks based on the latest psychological and neuroscience findings, (2) communicate ideas or concepts in order to elicit or probe your knowledge, (3) provide constructive criticism and academic feedback by addressing your weaknesses and strengths and finally (4) elaborate ways on how to ameliorate your academic deficiencies using individualized practice problems, homework and visual/audio means when applicable.
As a learning assistant (LA) in college, I tutored various subjects including general biology, genetics, general and organic chemistry, physiology, and microbiology. I also spent an entire summer as an instructor for human biology through the Peer-Led Team Learning (PLTL) program at Florida International University (FIU). In addition, for the past two years I've been tutoring clients and colleagues in the general, physical and organic branches of chemistry as well as in the MCAT. Finally, as a veteran WyzAnt tutor I have experienced a wide array of tutoring needs and have become fully proficient at fulfilling them. Dear scholar, you have come to the right place. Jesus is a great tutor and very knowledgeable in Chemistry. He was a great help and helped push me to understand the information I needed. He made sure I would understand concepts and reinforce them with practice problems. I would recommend Jesus, as he is a great tutor!
I was taught Organic Chemistry I by Jesus, and it was of a great help to be tutored by him. He is very knowledgeable and patient.
Jesus was able to teach me chemistry concepts in a way I can understand and he was able to help me execute chemistry problems in the way my professor will ask on the test. He is encouraging and very knowledgeable!
Jesus was great in tutoring me with the Orgo material that can be found on the MCAT! Very knowledgeable. Highly recommend to anyone needing assistance!
Fantastic tutor! Jesus has helped me the past couple of days for my organic chemistry 2 final exam. With his help, I am understanding the material very well, and I am confident I will do well on the exam. He is extremely patient, and explains the material very well. He is very professional and always on time. I highly recommend him as a tutor!
He is one of the best tutors that I could have found. Besides being super smart, he knows what you need to know and prepares you to be above expectations. He is the best! I certainly recommend!
Jesus is always on time and well prepared for the sessions. He makes notes along with me in order to record the topics that we are studying and keeps in mind the dates of my exams so we go over everything on time. I really like the way he explains everything because he makes orgo very simple, something that not everyone is good at. I have already recommended him to my friends and I would recommend him to anyone who is looking for an orgo tutor.
I contacted Jesus for MCAT tutoring. He responded to my inquiry within a few hours, and we scheduled our first meeting on the following day. Our first meeting was great, we discussed my academic goals (medical school matriculation), reviewed my application, and designed an MCAT study schedule. I met with Jesus several times; he was a patient teacher and flexible with my irregular work schedule. Most importantly, Jesus has a highly impressive command of all topics that are covered by the MCAT exam, and is intimately familiar with the medical school admissions process. He is a highly valuable resource and I strongly recommend him for any student seeking tutoring for the MCAT exam, any related field of study, or for medical school admissions coaching.
If I need additional MCAT help in the future, I will return for his assistance.
Class was great. Jesus was very much on time and very professional. He was very alert of my needs and he helped me greatly. Thank you!!!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
