Hello everyone! My name is Dan, and I really enjoy tutoring. Please keep reading to see if I can help you.
Here's what I offer:
- One-stop tutoring for the SAT and ACT. I can tutor all subjects on both major "college bound" tests. No need for different tutors for different subjects!
- A friendly, yet focused, teaching style;
- Individually tailored lessons. I do not have a set program for everyone. Part of what you (or your child) deserve is individualized teaching that fits each student's needs and learning style;
- Flexible scheduling;
- Substantial and detailed feedback after each lesson;
- Plus much, much more!
Now for some background. I graduated from the University of Miami (Go Canes!) and then received my law degree from the University of Florida in Gainesville. While at UF, I was a member of the Florida Law Review, worked as a teaching assistant for both Legal Research and Writing and Appellate Advocacy, and received the Book Award in White Collar Crime, given to the student with the highest grade in the class. I also served on Law Review's publication committee, which selects student works for publication in the Review.
After passing the Bar Exam in July 2006, I went to work in the litigation department of Holland & Knight right here in Tampa. Practicing law has been a great experience; however, my passion is teaching, and to that end, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to teach bankruptcy law to paralegal students in Madison, WI last winter. I loved it, and even learned how to ice skate. Not bad for a Florida boy!
I am available to tutor Math and Reading for the SAT and ACT, the GRE, the GED, and the LSAT, as well as for nearly all the social sciences. Believe me, the sessions will not be boring! That's right, even economics can be interesting. At least give it a shot!
I have sat through more than my fair share of lectures, and I always appreciated an instructor with enthusiasm for his/her subject. I will do my best to bring a dynamic approach to whatever subject matter we study. Hello everyone! My name is Dan, and I really enjoy tutoring. Please keep reading to see if I can help you.

This guy knows his stuff. Definitely would recommend him to anyone that needs a second pair of eyes when starting a project or in the process of completing one.
With just 3 lessons my daughter has increased her SAT scores by 90 points. We are looking forward to seeing her next round of testing at the end of January. Daniel is an excellent tutor.
For our First Lesson (ACT Reading) my son, Victor, learned what to focus on, what to avoid, and the best ways to answer the questions. Victor was very happy with what he learned today !!
Daniel is doing an excellent job helping our daughter prepare for the SAT and ACT tests. He teaches to her strengths which will serve her well when she tests.
Daniel has been helping me strengthen my weak areas for the ACT. So far everything has gone very well and I have learned a lot. Considering that we've been focusing on math, I feel like I am more prepared to thoroughly break down problems and solve them correctly using the tips and knowledge he's shared. He is very intelligent and patient. I can always ask him questions about topics that I don't understand and he will make sure that they get answered . I feel like I'll do better on ACT and eventually get the scores I need with his help.
After just 3 lessons with Daniel, my daughter said that she had improve in all areas that are tested on the ACT score. She felt confident that she would do extremely well when she takes it again. She said that Dan was patient and explained where she was going wrong and how to fix it.
My daughter who is a college senior is having a difficult time with a high level economics course. In only two sessions with Daniel, she feels that she is able to understand the material, much better than she has the entire semester. There is still a ways to go preparing her for final, but her confidence and knowledge are increasing thanks to Daniel.
Daniel was an incredibly helpful tutor and I highly recommend him to anybody looking for a math, reading, GRE, or LSAT tutor. When I contacted Dan through WyzAnt, I had just under a month to study for the GRE and improve 12 points in my score. We always met at an easily accessible public place and Dan was always prepared with study material. Dan helped me understand that the real trick to the GRE is understanding what exactly the question is asking and solving it from there; this made the test more manageable and easier to prepare for. I have a much better understanding of the GRE and performed much better on the test than I predicted. I got into graduate school thanks to the tutoring of Daniel and I highly recommend him.
My son seems to he grasping more and more every time. Very pleased and excited to see how he does on upcoming test.
I would have to say I was fed up with the GRE all together. I had taken classes at USF that didn't help and tried studying on my own but nothing seemed to work. My brother told me to look into getting a tutor and at first I was skeptical but then decided to try it out. Dan has been AMAZING ! He breaks down the problem so that it's easier to understand and so that I am able to decifer the problem and figure it out. He has helped so much and I can see the improvements I would not hesitate to recommend him to any one whether you need help with SAT, ACT, LSAT, or GRE. Great guy even better tutor !
Even though Jacob has scored well on his initial SAT tests, Daniel has been him to achieve to his best potential with his SAT and ACT scores!
Daniel has helped me to accomplish feeling confident in the subject's for my upcoming ACT Test. Daniel also was accommodating of my hectic sports schedule and worked out logistics and time to meet, I'm thankful for Daniel's time and Daniel's commitment to helping me to succeed on my ACT/SAT testing.
Thank you Daniel!
Our Family would like to Thank Daniel for preparing our son, Justin for the ACT Test and bringing up his ACT score by 5 points. Daniel specifically zeroed in and focused Justin, building his confidence and skills in English and Science resulting in a 5 point increase to his English and Science scores. Before Daniel tutoring, Justin had taken the ACT 2 times and couldn't increase his score, within only 1 month of Tutoring with Daniel our son's confidence and ability to test was maximized and the proof was in the 5 point increase to his score. Justin is also an athlete and Daniel was able to incorporate his experience of being an athlete, training and preparing for games for the ACT test date. Again, we are so grateful and thankful for Daniel and we would highly recommend Daniel to all seeking a tutor.
Very clear with explaining concepts and helped me break down tough questions that turned out to be easier to solve and easier to breakdown.
Daniel was able to help me achieve my target goal on the GMAT. His approach was to identify my weaknesses and give me different skills to help me conquer the toughest questions. Dan is also flexible with meeting and easy to get a hold of. Great tutor, highly recommended!
Daniel helped me with my math and reading and always made sure I understood before moving on. He was very patient with me and I would recommend him to everyone!
Mr. Daniel changed my educational perspective in many ways. He made me realize how important economics and law is in our daily life but we do not notice it. he is the best tutor ever. I really enjoyed taking classes with him. He used to explain and clarify all the topics in details and provide great examples. Taking classes with him this semester increased and expanded my knowledge in different subjects. Thanks to Mr. Daniel he really changed my point of view in many subjects I used to hate because he is so passionate about the subjects he teaches. To conclude having a helpful and friendly tutor is important to us students to succeed in the class and maintain a high educational level in the subject and Mr. Daniel is a perfect example. I strongly recommend you guys to take him.
All I can say is Thank You Dan. My son came into this needing a specific number to get what he wanted a baseball scholarship to a fantastic school and Dan helped him exceed beyond that. He is a great tutor, flexible and very easy to reach in a pinch. I would recommend him for anyone that struggles with reading. My son went from a 12 to a 20 in 7 weeks, that is absolutely unbelievable. Thank you again for your assistance in getting him to live his dream of playing baseball at the next level.
Very good at explaining and going in depth with helping me understand topics on the ACT. I highly recommend him to everyone, especially if they are trying to improve their ACT score!
Daniel helped me increase my ACT scores four points. He's an expert in what he does and has great knowledge on every topic. Since the first lesson, I was able to see he was extremely experienced. He gives great strategies that will help at the moment of testing not only on the ACT but also at the SAT.
Dan was a really great math tutor for the GRE quantitative section. He had lots of practice problems and knew how to explain difficult concepts in multiple ways for me to understand them. Before math tutoring, I was scoring lower than average scores on practice tests. After about 6 or so tutoring sessions, my score was above average on the actual test. In addition, he was very flexible with my busy schedule. 10/10 would recommend.
Daniel helped my son with ACT preparation, mainly with Reading and Science. My son is a good and diligent student, but even after studying diligently on his own, his Reading and Science scores were 25 and 28 respectively in June, making his composite score 31, with which he wasn't happy.
He asked me to find a tutor for him and am I glad I found Daniel! He studied with Daniel for about 9 hours between mid July and early September of 2014 and his Reading score went up to 34 and his Science score up to 34 making his composite score 35. This means his Reading score went up by 9 point, Science score up by 6 points, and composite score up by 4 points! It was amazing. My son felt that Daniel was an excellent and effective teacher and he learned a lot from Daniel. His test scores show it.
Daniel has been patient and always prepared when tutoring my daughter. He listens to his students concerns and adapts accordingly. In prepping for the SAT with him, our scores improved. We just took the ACT and are waiting the results. However, prepping with Daniel increased her confidence and ability to maneuver the questions and manage our time.
Daniel is a very patient tutor. He makes sure that you understand the subject matter well enough that you may be able to explain it back to him. His strategies and techniques are easy to understand and follow. I have definitely seen a difference in my comprehension, focus, and grades. Thank you Dan!
I’ve personally have gone through multiple tutors for help in reading because that’s what I struggle with most. Daniel took the time to understand what obstacle I had to overcome and what I needed to improve in order to get a better reading score. He was incredibly patient with me and always made sure I was 100% clear on what he was saying before moving on.
I brought him my former reading scores and he was able to dissect the main problems. We worked on improving them by working on strategies and lots of practice! Before I started working with Daniel my highest subscore on the ACT reading was a 19. A month and a half later on the next ACT, I got my outstanding high score in reading, a 31. I HIGHLY recommend Daniel to anyone, especially people who have difficulty comprehending problems, because he is able to make everything easier to understand and he cares about his client’s progress.
Daniel is a great tutor. He is very helpful and clear.
I am a 28 year-old who is in the process of applying to grad school. As you can imagine, it has been a very long time since I've done geometry, algebra...etc. I was very overwhelmed when I sat down to practice math for the GRE. That's when I reached out and found Daniel. Right away it was very obvious that Daniel is extremely knowledgeable and intelligent. However, he was excellent at explaining things in terms I understood. He was patient if I didn't understand something right away and was always able to provide additional examples until I was comfortable with the concept. He was also very flexible and willing to change appointments if needed. Daniel made very good use of our time together, especially considering I only had 3-4 weeks of study time before I had to take the test. I got the score I needed and there is no doubt that Daniel played a huge role in making that happen! The bottom line: he's good at what he does. I would highly recommend him.
Very easy to get hold of. Communication via cell and email was outstanding. Daniel was outstanding & we will be using him again next month. He was very thorough, very patient and my son met his goal in his ACT Testing because of Daniel's tutoring.
Overall very happy & I would definitely recommend Daniel.
He significantly helped me in raising my act English score in a only a few months!! Super honest and very intelligent, I highly recommend him as a tutor for anyone looking to work!
Dan was such a great tutor and he helped me raise my GRE math score to my goal score. He was extremely patient and provided me with the skills I needed to get a great score. He also helped me a lot with the verbal section and gave me great tips for the analytical writing section. I highly recommend Dan for GRE ( or any kind of math) tutoring!
We have been very pleased! I wish we would have called Daniel a lot sooner. Daniel is very patient, professional, knowledgeable and extremely helpful.
Daniel has a set plan to improve our daughter's SAT math skills. He patiently reviews all the steps to the problems with her and allows her work the math solutions out.
I recently had a session with Daniel and he was great! He worked around my schedule, he was on time and he was very knowledgeable about the content of my assignment prior to us meeting which allowed us to get a great deal of material covered during the hour. And he was very friendly and respectful as well! He even picked a location that was convenient for the both of us and was very flexible with the time frames he offered. I personally will definitely be using Daniel in the future and would recommend him to any other student.
This was my very first time referring to a tutor and I was very nervous at first. Daniel has approached me in an amazingly professional and prompt way which made the entire experience a wonderful and interesting one. Within two hours, I have learned a lot and developed many skills that I believe will be helpful in the preparation. He was encouraging, patient, helpful and most of it all, he knows what he is doing. I will certainly meet Daniel again before the test and recommend him for anyone who really wants to succeed. Dan is dedicated and obviously is very passionate about teaching and kindly shares his experiences, knowledge and techniques.
Good luck to all!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taken numerous standardized tests, most of which focused on grammar, usage, and/or (especially) reading comprehension. I think it is important that students prepare a "game plan" for attacking these tests, rather than simply trying to memorize every possible rule or theory that may be tested. This approach has worked well for me, and I hope to share it with as many students as possible.
I have worked with dozens of students on this subsection of the ACT, devoting hundreds of hours to learning how to teach the material. I firmly believe this method delivers consistent results; and I believe my results support that belief. Furthermore, I can relate the ACT Math to the SAT Math while also drawing attention to the subtle distinctions between the two subsections, thus providing a head start to anyone who will be taking that test as well.
I have analyzed numerous ACT Reading tests, and discovered that ACT Reading sections are essentially reading comprehension tests. To this end, I stress the importance of reading closely, reading for understanding, and paying very close attention to what the question is asking. By doing so, a student will gain a greater appreciation of what s/he is reading, which will come in very handy at the college level. Even better, these skills can improve any student's ACT score!
I am qualified to tutor in math up through SAT/ACT Math and Algebra 2. I also majored in math-intensive economics while at the University of Miami. In short, I believe in making math concepts more concrete, as I find many students struggle with the abstract nature of the subject.
I earned my B.A. in History from the University of Miami, with a concentration in American History, in 2002. I find the subject fascinating and infinitely rewarding to study. I believe students who are uninterested in the subject often view it as merely a collection of facts with little to no relevance to their lives. I make every effort to relate historical events to broader themes that they are likely to understand.
I passed the Florida Bar Exam in 2006 on my first attempt, scoring in the 90th percentile of test-takers for that year. I am very familiar with the Bar subjects through both my practice prior to taking the exam, and my years as an attorney. Finally, I have some good test-taking tips that are particularly applicable to the Bar Exam.
I played four years of high school baseball, including as a member of the 1997 state champion Barron Collier Cougars (Class 4A, Florida). I also coached Little League baseball for two years. I am an avid fan of the sport and am very well-versed in the game's history, rules, and statistics.
I have been an avid chess player since I was 6 years old. I am familiar not only with basic rules and piece capabilities, but also more advanced strategies, including anticipating how the board will develop several moves ahead. Perhaps most importantly, I understand how the game can both improve cognitive abilities and also be, quite simply, fun!
I have been a member of the Florida Bar since 2006, and have participated in numerous criminal defense matters. I also received the highest grade in my White Collar Crime class in law school.
I was an economics major in college and carried a 3.95 GPA in the subject at the University of Miami. I can help with beginner, intermediate, and advanced topics. Please do not hesitate to contact me to find out more!
I have worked out since I was 14 years old at least 3 times per week. I coached baseball and played football and baseball in high school. I am an avid reader of fitness magazines and understand the basics of training, nutrition, rest, and recovery.
I was a three year Varsity letter-man at a 5A high school in Florida. I played both offense and defense and thus have a solid foundation of knowledge of the fundamentals of the game on both sides of the ball. Additionally, I understand blocking schemes, pass protections, route combinations, defensive fronts, blitz packages, and more. I have been an avid fan for 25 years and have studied the development of sophisticated spread offenses and simple zone running attacks, as well as defensive zone-blitz schemes and other advances in defensive theory.
I believe students become more receptive to Geometry when it is made less abstract. By using drawings and illustrations, a tutor can trigger a student's intuitive sense of geometric figures, which helps substantially. Finally, I like to illustrate how geometry can be used to make calculations in areas as diverse as engineering and sports. This makes the material more accessible.
I have been a practicing attorney for going on 7 years. I have handled cases in areas of law ranging from criminal defense to neighborhood zoning disputes to business transactions. Prior to becoming an attorney, I earned my J.D. from the University of Florida.
I scored a 162 (88th percentile) on the Fall 2002 LSAT. More important than my score, I understand the purpose of the LSAT, and how the abilities tested by it translate in to practice. This helps me explain to students a method for approaching the test. I also know the difficulties many LSAT test-takers have when they first confront logic games. I enjoy giving students the tools they need to tackle the logic games portion and the LSAT as a whole!
During my time as an attorney, I have argued numerous motions in open court, frequently in front of other attorneys. I also conducted the oral argument as a teaching assistant in Appellate Advocacy, where I had to defend my position against a panel of judges in front of 50 fellow law students.
One fun example of my public speaking experience was the honor of giving the Best Man speech at my brother's wedding with 250 guests in attendance.
Also, lecturing on bankruptcy law twice a week to paralegal students further prepared me for public speaking engagements.
I have worked with dozens of students on this subsection of the SAT, devoting hundreds of hours to learning how to deliver the material. I have developed a method that delivers consistent results, as attested to by my reviews. Furthermore, students of nearly any level can gain additional points by learning some strategies in addition to the concepts that I teach.
The SAT Reading test requires close, careful reading. The test seeks to determine how well-prepared a student is for college level reading. Keeping these two points in mind, I teach students to slow down and find textual support for their answers. As an added benefit, students begin to see how much more they learn when they read this way, and their test scores go as well!
I have over 200 hours experience on Wyzant preparing students for standardized tests such as the ACT, SAT, GRE and LSAT. Furthermore, I am familiar with the subject matter tested by the TEAS specifically through my teaching experience, my study of other standardized tests, and my educational background generally. Additionally, I have reviewed the specifics of the TEAS in order to further my understanding of the material and the test structure.
