Hi, my name is Tony. Ten years ago, I arrived in the U.S. and have been developing my English skills since then. I have been a tutor of English and math for 12 yrs. I acquired my degree in civil engineering from the University of Texas in Arlington, with high grades in English and math. I am bilingual with Arabic as my native language, and can teach the language to high school students.
My views about tutoring:
Creating a friendly atmosphere is a very important step toward successful tutoring. A tutor's job is to help his students depend more and more on themselves. One way to do this is by assigning his students to do homework at home. The next day the tutor will correct the homework in the presence of his or her student.
My advice to students who are pursuing their studies, whether in elementary, high schools or colleges, is: while trying to study one should keep his mind off of other issues and concentrate on his studies ... thinking of other issues while studying only distracts a student.
About me ... I have a good sense of humor. I like to be around friends and relatives ... and I am a friendly person!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Simply speaking, teaching math requires good knowledge of the basics of this subject. Understanding those basics is where a good tutor can transfer his knowledge to his student in an orderly manner and in a simple way so that the student can consume the material with the least effort step by step.
Usually I try to build a good relation with my student in order to have his utmost attention ... this being accomplished the student will give his best attention and that's when he starts consuming the subject and even liking it. The result - the tutor will put the student on the right path in achieving a good goal that is dear to the parents - the goal of bypassing the obstacle and achieving good grades.
