About Jenny

Highly Qualified Teacher with comprehensive range of experiences utilizing excellent verbal/written communication, organization and problem solving skills to plan and implement learning objectives successfully.

One-on-One instruction focuses on utilizing the learner's strengths and interests to build upon. Defining the learner's communication characteristics and level of understanding in the material is first priority. Participation is essential to learning, so the learner's level of confidence in the environment and understanding of the information shared is a focus.

I am also recognized for the ability to integrate technology into curriculum standards in reading, writing and mathematics with rich and meaningful projects which assist the learner’s connection to skills. I collaborate well with specialists, peers and parents when addressing student progress and needs. Additionally, I presented student produced technology rich philanthropy projects at national and state conferences.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I hold a BS in Education and have 15 years experience teaching Math, Social Studies, Reading and Writing in grades 3 and 6 and special education for grades 6 and 7. I hold a current Colorado Elementary Education Certification, Michigan K - 8 and current Florida Elementary Education/Gifted Endorsement Certification.

I have been trained in and utilized the Michigan Literacy Progress Profile to assess and teach individualized reading, trained in and incorporated “Five Types Writing Process”, a pilot teacher for Philanthropy Unit teaching for Western Michigan University and implemented K-5 technology goals which integrated K-5 Language Arts and Social Studies objectives.

Most of my success in teaching stem from my individualized approach to teaching. The student's independent level of communication and understanding of the material is key to his/her growth. Working one-on-one to first identify the learner's level of development and building on this is a primary goal.

Phonics

The learning environment included activities for learners to combine sounds to make words, match words to pictures, develop personal vocabulary banks, develop fluency with recorded and choral reading, and increase independent reading comprehension levels through various verbal and written response opportunities. This program is base on one-on-one models and perfect for tutoring situations.

Study Skills

My scholastic and career experiences have helped me to effectively teach learners how to study. My students are provided with many opportunities to develop effective study skills by discovering their own personal study style, learning to manage their time more efficiently and how best to prepare for exams. Students will improve their performance in school and increase their ability to learn.
