Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Microsoft Publisher

I have a Master of Arts in Writing from Coastal Carolina University. At the time these tests were taken, I had just graduated from my undergrad program. I am now proficient in MS Publisher, as well as the entire MS Suite, and my proofreading skills are outstanding.

In my Master of Arts in Writing program, I took an advanced course on publishing, which required the use of MS Publisher, as well as several others, and also required me to proofread and compile manuscripts.

Swimming

I took official swimming lessons at both a Bethesda Camp in Maryland as well as my own private swimming lessons when I was young. The private lessons consisted of basic swimming techniques such as swimming in place, simple back stroke, breast stroke, and floating. At the camp, I received advanced lessons in side stroke, free stroke, butterfly stroke, advanced back stroke, diving, diving rules and swimming rules.

Both I felt were required to gain an excellent technique as well as primary function. Certain rules in swimming, such as gear, safety, even how to help or attend to someone who has taken on too much water, how to get him/her out of the water, and basic emergency signals. Diving rules consisted of shallow water warnings, knowing when the water is too shallow, the dangers of diving in shallow water, even the dangers of swimming down too deep. In the advanced swimming lessons, I learned how to control my oxygen, keep calm under danger (getting snagged, caught, or stuck underneath the water), and even learned firsthand how to swim in white water as well as calm water.
