About Jonah

Bio

Hi everyone! My name is Jonah, and I am an Honors Scholar at Florida State University where I study Computational and Applied Mathematics and Music. I am an avid teacher, tubist, and baker. I have been tutoring for just over five years, and these past two years I have learned to adapt to virtual environments to keep lessons engaging and meaningful. One of my favorite parts of the job is helping students reach that "a-ha" moment in their math coursework.

I began tutoring in sophomore year of high school while taking Calculus 1. Since then, I have tutored all levels of high school math, the entire calculus sequence, differential equations, and many other subjects. In addition, I have experience with FSU's own Student Athlete Academic Services as a peer tutor in areas ranging from college level statistics to trigonometry. While I take pride in helping students see success in the classroom, I have also worked with students to prepare them for all levels of standardized testing and seen fantastic results. In high school I earned a 780 on the math portion of the SAT and a 780 on the SAT Math II Subject Test. I am also an actuarial exam prep tutor, having passed both preliminary examinations (P and FM) on first attempts with tried and true study methods. I would love to be able to help you reach your goals when it comes to testing as well!

A great teacher never stops learning. With so much accrued experience tutoring a diverse set of students, I believe that I learn alongside the student in every lesson. I make a point to explain the most fundamental concepts of any problem in depth to ensure my students are able to reconstruct the solutions we work through in lessons on their own. As a musician and a mathematician, some of the best learning moments happen outside the classroom, when we make the connection to other passions and subjects. I would love to help you make those connections in your own learning. Please feel free to contact me with any questions about scheduling appointments! I look forward to learning w

I have passed both Exam P and Exam FM, the preliminary exams offered by the SOA. In addition, I have completed an internship with Aetna, one of the nation's largest health insurers. I have the mixture of exam prep and on-the-job skills that will let me be a great instructor for students looking to excel in actuarial studies.
