Bio

I have tutored professionally since 2011, and for three years I taught English Composition 101 and 102 at Rutgers, where I also tutored graduate students. I have worked with students as young as 4 and as old as 76, as well as students from all backgrounds and skill levels. I have tutored professionally since 2011, and for three years I taught English Composition 101 and 102 at Rutgers, where I also tutored graduate students. I have worked with students as young as 4 and as old as 76, as well as students from all backgrounds and skill levels. I tutored developmental English at PSCC in Knoxville, TN for 2 years, where I worked with students who struggled with college level English skills due to learning disabilities, test anxiety, second language skills, and other factors. I have worked with young children for two summer reading programs, and was trained in contemporary literacy building techniques. I'm well trained and highly effective at increasing reading speed and comprehension, but most of my tutoring has centered on essay writing and standard classroom assignments.
I have been trained to work with students of all ages to address issues with language arts at all levels.

In addition, I tutor math from pre-K to pre-algebra levels. I approach math like an English teacher first and foremost: my students discuss problems with me analytically, and I use a methods-based approach rather than memorization. As someone who used to struggle with math, I am uniquely qualified to tutor it. One of the most common sentences my math students will hear me say is, "I used to not know how to do this either, but let me show you what helped it make sense to me." My goal is for students to understand why they're using a certain method rather than just remembering how to do it, leading to a more natural understanding of basic math and number skills.

Excellent!

She is very engaging, professional and organized and my 7 year old son seems to be improving his reading and writing skills and enjoying the lesson! It's hard to capture the attention of a 7 year old boy for one hour but she does a great job.

Patient and Kind!

Anna worked with my 7.5-year-old and was very patient and kind. My daughter was shy and hesitant at first, but warmed to Anna's gentle but firm instruction. Anna brought a variety of texts and worksheets to begin tutoring, as well as suggestions for how to practice skills on our own.
