Florida State University (Political Science)
I am a senior at Florida State University and triple major in International Affairs, Political Science and Spanish Language. My GPA is 3.9 and I will be attending FSU College of Law in the fall. I greatly value my education and I love sharing my passion for learning with others. All of my tutoring experience has previously been through volunteering. I mentored freshman in all school subjects through a program called AVID. I also have experience in teaching migrant adults English through the PAEC program in Quincy. I spent 3 months tutoring at a small non-proft organization called Seeds of Hope in Huaraz, Peru. Also, this previous summer I spent a month teaching English at a University in the Amazon of Peru! I am an avid reader and have ample patience.
I will do a free consultation to make sure I am the right fit for your learning needs!
I have worked with non-native English speakers and have Spanish language proficiency. I have taken a class on Spanish Bilingualism and am familiar with bilingual teaching methods.

Shannon is patient and knowledgeable. She goes at the pace we need. She knows Spanish very well and is a great tutor. I would recommend her for beginners as well as those who need help in understanding the language and how to speak it.
For a mom watching your child struggle in any area is hard, but having them hide it and not really knowing why the change of confidence is heart wrenching !! My son is in 8th grade taking a high school Spanish 2 class and is not relating well to his teacher, he apparently was failing every test the entire year , yet class work straight A's so his report card grades was always b's . Back in December he began to say negative things about himself , like he was stupid, etc.. Of course I tried to tell him differently but it didn't matter what mom told him. Finally right before spring break he broke down and said his teacher wouldn't help him and long story short I met with the teacher found out all his grades and cried new we needed help. I searched online called FSU , went through a private tutor bad experience then I found Wyzant and Shannon . From the moment we met her and sat down I know my son was going to like her, moms know these things, he didn't say to much but the first night he got home from his first lesson he said something I will never forget " mom thank you for getting me a tutor " if you know anything about 14 year old boys they don't thank you for much unless it's something valuable to them.. Shannon has given my son back his confidence and just in time to enter high school .. He will enter high school knowing sometimes having conflicts with the teacher means you have to ask for help . We will continue to work will Shannon only !! She is the best!!!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
