About Sara

I graduated from Vanderbilt University in 2014, where I earned a B.A. through a double major in Sociology and Earth & Environmental Science. It was there that I realized a love for data and research, and, most importantly, developed unwavering beliefs in the importance of education.

This led me to the selective Nashville Teaching Fellows training institute. I spent the summer after college actively learning the best, research-proven foundations of teaching through intensive classroom practice, expert coaching, and personalized training.

During the 2014-2015 school year, I taught 6th grade math and science in Nashville. I was recognized by administration for the way that I was able to work efficiently, capable of multi-tasking in the moment, communicating ideas effectively through lessons, and working urgently to progress both my and my students’ abilities at all times.

In addition to being an efficient worker, I am a passionate one, believing in the achievement of all students, regardless of background. Having taught in a high-need school, my students' abilities varied greatly within the same classroom. However, by connecting with every student and learning what worked best for each, I was able to see growth with all. (The result? A proud 95% quick score on the math portion of our end-of-the-year state assessment.)

Throughout the school year, I continued in-person training, online modules, in-class coaching, and formal observations and evaluations with the Nashville Teaching Fellows. Between these performance evaluations, TCAP scores, and many other factors, I passed the year-long program and earned my TN teaching license.

Additionally, I have prior experience as an in-home tutor. My students have ranged from 4th to 11th graders needing extra help in their respective math levels and high school students preparing for the ACT.

In college, I volunteered through the Life Project, where I mentored local high school students to address critical issues such as academics and college admission with the goal of promoting a responsible and empowering lifestyle. I also volunteered with Vanderbilt Students Volunteering for Science, where I taught science lessons to Nashville elementary and middle school students and fostered an environment that encouraged curiosity in learning through hands-on involvement.

In my free time, I enjoy hiking, baking, and watching baseball.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Informative and kind tutor

I was able to verbalize/explain problem solving and Sarah walked me through it. I liked her tutoring style and felt comfortable expressing my confusion and asking questions .
