Having a certified teacher become your child’s tutor is the most effective way to help your child demonstrate learning gains. I am currently certified in Elementary Grades K – 6 all subjects and ESOL Endorsed. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership. For the past seven years I have taught at an elementary school in Pasco County while tutoring elementary age students in math and reading after school. I presently work with the Florida Department of Education working with various assessment and subject area experts to train and communicate new strategies to classroom teachers. Having the most recent knowledge and being so involved in statewide instructional decisions coupled with my experience makes me an ideal candidate to be your child’s tutor.
I am interested in tutoring because I miss having students. There is nothing that can replace that moment when you see one of your students finally understand and apply knowledge of a concept he or she has been working so hard to comprehend. Being a teacher I understand how difficult it is to provide the one-on-one attention many students need. I’m proud that I can help close that gap.
I teach with an inquiry based method to deepen student understanding. I do not believe in giving children answers but rather guiding them to find the answers on their own. Research shows that unless children practice application of a new skill, the chances of remembering it in the future are not likely.
I plan on holding tutoring sessions at a local library, Starbucks, or other public location.
I look forward to working with you and helping your child succeed! Having a certified teacher become your child’s tutor is the most effective way to help your child demonstrate learning gains. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
While teaching in Pasco County I attended the Common Core Institute over the summer and for 10 days durin the school year. During the institute we went in depth with the new standards and learned how to teach with rigor. Throughout the school year I was part of a cohort that applied new teaching strategies and trained other teachers.
I currently hold a valid Florida Teaching Certificate in Elementary grades K - 6. I also have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education as well as seven years of teaching fourth and fifth grade in the public school system. I have two years of experience tutoring first and second grade students in reading and math after school.
I am proud to say I brought one of my fifth grade student's from a 3 on her math FCAT in fourth grade to a perfect 5 in fifth based on the study skills I taught my students in class. We focus on deep breathing to reduce stress, eliminating incorrect answers, and using information in the question for hints.
