Working with children has always been a passion of mine, which is why I am currently seeking a graduate degree in elementary education! I love to help children learn and grow, and strive to inspire them to gain their greatest potential. I strongly believe that every child has the ability to learn, and a strong educational foundation can be a great catalyst for a child to reach his or her best.
I have worked in two different elementary classrooms over the past two years, therefore I understand what students are currently learning in school. I have also studied the testing and curriculum being implemented in school systems. I believe these experiences alone has greatly prepared me to help children learn. Aside from those experiences, I am currently working my fourth year as an Arts and Crafts Director at a local summer camp. This requires me to work with countless children, all of differing learning and discipline levels.
Outside of professional work areas, I have also coached numerous young softball teams. I played college softball, and understand the importance of sports and teamwork in a child's life. Coaching these young teams has allowed me teach, and watch children grow outside of the classroom. It teaches discipline, responsibility, accountability, goal-setting, and many other important life skills.
As far as tutoring, I plan on making it the most enjoyable experience possible. Not every child loves to learn like I did and still do, but I do my best to try and get every child to see how learning can be enjoyable and how satisfying success can be. I encourage constructive feedback on my performance as a tutor, and expect that each of my students understands that my feedback for them is always meant as something positive and constructive. I am a flexible worker, but I will make it aware again that I am currently a graduate student, therefore my schedule is not 100% open and free. I will do my best, however, to work with you and your schedules, as I know we are all busy!
Do not be afraid to reach out to me for help! I am here to make everyone I work with a better student, and to inspire students to set high, attainable goals for themselves so that they can witness their own success when it is reached. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am qualified to tutor/teach Sociology because my Bachelor's degree is in Sociology. I passed all of my sociology classes with a B or better average and maintained a 3.6 GPA in that area of study.
