I am an experienced classroom teacher with 22 years of service in elementary schools. I have a specialist degree in Special Education and served as a school based support teacher in an elementary school.
In that position, I helped classroom teachers modify programs for students experiencing difficulty with the curriculum. I also withdrew some children for extra tutoring in basic skills. I have taught kindergarten through 8th grade.
I am currently tutoring a fourth grade student in writing and math. We are both enjoying the experience. We spend an hour together twice a week. He is now able to write full page stories and essays - something he found impossible to complete when we first began working together. He has demonstrated good understanding of math concepts and is now better able to complete course work efficiently. I would love to help more young children improve their basic reading, writing and math skills.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
