About Denise

My love for teaching starts back at a very early age. I have always wanted to be a teacher and grew to obtain all of the necessary education to do so. I am what you call a "Highly Qualified Teacher." I have helped many children reach their academic goals and specialize in comprehension and memory retention techniques. Once learned, these techniques can be applied to every class and any subject, thus allowing the student to be successful in their efforts. I specialize in tutoring all subjects K-8. This includes special attention to subjects that children struggle with the most, reading and math. I also specialize in Science. One of my goals for each session is to keep the student challenged, but not overwhelmed. With regards to homework, I provide independent hands-on activities for the student to do at their convenience. I also provide periodic assessments and progress reports. I hold myself to the highest standard and often ask for student feedback. I ensure that the student and parent are satisfied with my tutoring and welcome any referrals.

I am a professional and expect tutoring sessions to be kept. I try to be flexible with my time and I am open to scheduling sessions in the evening and on the weekends. I require a 24-hour notice for cancellation and reciprocate should something come up that prevents me from keeping an appointment. This would only happen in an emergency. Anything less than 24 hours notice will result in a cancellation fee of 10.00. I conduct my tutoring sessions at the local library, here in Spring Hill, FL, but will travel to your home if necessary. Please do not use my tutoring sessions as a form of babysitting or daycare. I am here to teach and inspire students to do well in their academic studies.

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve success in your studies.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I enjoy algebra very much and feel it is a much needed skill that goes beyond the classroom. I am confident I can break down any problem into simple steps in order for a student to understand exactly how to get to their correct answer. Algebra can be intimidating to some, but truly, if the lessons are presented in a way that seems easy, it becomes a fun way to challenge yourself in math.

Astronomy

I am qualified to tutor in this particular area as I have had a long term interest in Astronomy. I've taken Astronomy classes in college along with Physics classes and definitely feel I am suited to teach this topic to a student. I also incorporate memory and retention techniques in my tutoring sessions so students can remember what their taught and readily bring it back to mind when being tested.

Bible Studies

I received my education through Grand Canyon University, which is a private Christian College. I have taken numerous courses in biblical studies, such as systematic theology, along with Old Testament and New Testament studies. I earned a Masters Degree in Theology with a concentration in Youth Ministry. I enjoy teaching the Bible as there are many aspects and perspectives to consider. I would be more than happy to help a student with these types of studies.

Biology

I am qualified to tutor in this particular area as I have had a long term interest in Biology. I've taken numerous biology courses throughout my academic career and enjoy learning about biology as new discoveries are made. I definitely feel I am suited to teach this topic to a student. I also incorporate memory and retention techniques in my tutoring sessions so students can remember what their taught and readily bring it back to mind when being tested.

Common Core

I am a K-8 teacher who enjoys tutoring very much. I recently embarked on the whole "Common Core" curriculum and have tutored students in this area for the past two months. I have also purchased the entire McGraw Hill "Common Core" book set that includes the teachers books, work books, assessments, and web page access to assist me in teaching this new style of Math concepts. I am confident I have all the material I need to help students become successful in this area of study. I promise to make your tutoring sessions in this area fun and easy to understand. Looking forward to our sessions.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have two specific degrees in this area. I have an Associates of Science Degree majoring in Education K-3, obtained through SUNY Farmingdale, NY, and a Bachelors Degree in Education K-8, with a concentration in Science obtained through Grand Canyon University. I have my certificate of eligibility to teach in the State of Florida.

Elementary Science

I am qualified to tutor in this particular area as I have an Associated Degree in Early Childhood Education with an Emphasis in Science, A Bachelors Degree in Education K-8, with an Emphasis in Science, and a Masters Degree as well. I enjoy having students engage in hands-on experiments, along with incorporating their daily world into the world of Science. I definitely feel I am suited to teach this topic to a student. I also incorporate memory and retention techniques in my tutoring sessions so students can remember what their taught and readily bring it back to mind when being tested

English

I am qualified to tutor in this particular area as I have an Associated Degree in Early Childhood Education, a Bachelors Degree in Education K8, and a Masters Degree as well. I enjoy having students read and engage in material they are interested in rather than giving them material that was written in the 1970's. I further enjoy having children be creative in writing their own short plays, poems, and stories while learning language, reading, and comprehension. I help students to incorporate their English learning into every day life by having them do activities that can be done "along the way" such as reading signs, directions, and understanding different points of view. I also incorporate memory and retention techniques in my tutoring sessions so students can remember what they're taught and readily bring it back to mind when being tested.

Geology

I am qualified to tutor in this particular area as I have an Associated Degree in Early Childhood Education with an Emphasis in Science, A Bachelors Degree in Education K-8, with an Emphasis in Science, and a Masters Degree as well. I enjoy having students engage in hands-on experiments, along with incorporating their daily world into the world of Science. I definitely feel I am suited to teach this topic to a student. Grammar

I am qualified to teach grammar as I have had many classes in the English Subject Area in college. I have an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education and a Bachelors in Education K-8, both of which encompassed teaching children the English language as far as reading, writing and grammar. I enjoy teaching children this topic and incorporate grammar into their every day lives through teaching them observation skills, memory recollection and retention. I also like incorporating word and grammar games for children to learn and play with their friends.

Microbiology

I am qualified to teach Microbiology as I have a Bachelors Degree in Education K-8, with a concentration in Science. I have taken and passed many science classes and enjoy this topic immensely. I love watching science documentaries and enjoy teaching students this topic through the use of virtual science labs and You tube video's that show the components of a cell as it goes through it's processes. One such video is ATP Synthase which shows students cell components that look like parts of a car engine. Using these types of techniques, along with memory and retention techniques help to foster understanding, and recollection, thus helping students pass their exams with less stress.

Painting

I am a painter myself. I paint in oils, and acrylic and at times, water color. I am very familiar with painting techniques such as cubism, surrealism, and impressionist painting along with the artists that are known for this type of artistic style, such as Picasso, Salvatore Dali, and Van Gogh. My love for art goes way back. My interest in these artists opened a whole new world for me as I studied them and the techniques they used.

Physical Science

I am qualified to tutor in this particular area as I have an Associated Degree in Early Childhood Education with an Emphasis in Science, A Bachelors Degree in Education K-8, with an Emphasis in Science, and a Masters Degree as well. I also incorporate memory and retention techniques in my tutoring sessions so students can remember what their taught and readily bring it back to mind when being tested.

Reading

I am qualified to teach reading as I have an Associated Degree in Early Childhood Education and a Bachelors Degree in Education K-8. I enjoy reading and have the ability to inspire students to read more material, other than classroom text books. Students are encouraged to read about topics that interest them. Providing students with a wide array of vocabulary words helps them gain confidence in reading.
