For over a decade, I have provided services in language instruction. I am a member of TESOL International Association. I own my own business which provides consulting services for training in areas of language arts and specialized safety training. As a language instructor, I have participated in TESOL International conferences and taught English (ESL) sessions in China, Thailand and USA. I have a company that provides consulting services for IT network design, on-site environmental power quality analysis, specialized electronic circuit design and manufacturing. I have done private and group volunteer work, at Framingham and Ashland Libraries, and St. Mary's Church in Milford, MA. As adjunct Professor, Instructor, and Teacher of English as a Second Language, I have recently taught all levels of ESL classes at Assabet Valley Technical School, Marlborough, MA and Computer Systems Institute in Worcester.
I have lived, worked and traveled in Latin America, Asia and Europe, and have been a student of foreign languages which has given me the in depth understanding of the culture and language barriers that all students need to get through to become efficient in their new language. I have a Master of Education degree in ESL and have many years experience teaching English learners from diverse backgrounds.
I believe that a qualified tutor needs to understand his students' levels and listen to their needs.
Whether your needs are to improve your social or academic language skills, or prepare for exams, I am adaptable to the student's needs. I have an Engineering background and a depth of knowledge in technical fields that most ESL teachers will not be able to communicate in. My schedule is flexible and I can work online, on site or at your business or library. For over a decade, I have provided services in language instruction. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My experience in teaching ESL goes back over a decade. While in graduate school, I volunteered with other students to teach English to immigrants through a program at a church in Milford, MA. The students mostly were native Spanish speakers at the beginning level. Since then, I have been teaching at several levels at a Technical school in Marlborough, and day classes for several semesters at a Language Institute . I have also taught group and private ESL sessions at a Russian Center. Besides local sessions, I have taught ESL in China, Latin America and Thailand. The level of students varies from beginner to advanced, and I work to select the proper level of material for each student.
My undergraduate major in Foreign Language includes German and Spanish. As part of my undergraduate work, I studied "Hoch-deutsch intensive Kurs" in Berlin and submitted papers on the experience and culture of the city. I have also returned to Germany many times for engineering assignments. In 2007 I completed a capstone project involving research of works on German printmakers, as well as translation work on 15th Century German writings. In addition to scholarly research work, I have worked on power system site audits for several German Companies which involved communicating with non-English speaking Engineers.
I have a Masters Degree in Education specializing in TESOL from Framingham State University class of 2011, and have an undergraduate degree in Foreign Languages, German and Spanish. I have studied, lived and worked in Latin America, Spain and Germany. I also have advanced certificates in Spanish and German from GLS Sprachenzentrum, Berlin, and Escuela Montalban, Granada, Spain.
