Chris was awesome! I had more than a few issues with understanding ArcGIS and Chris did an amazing job with helping me sort things out. We had close to a two hour session that went by very smoothly. He was able to break topics down for me in very plain, simple English that got through to me easily. He also taught me a lot of really helpful tips and tricks to use with the software that makes working with it much more efficient. He was also very timely with any communication we had and I couldn't have asked for a more positive experience. I would DEFINITELY recommend Chris if you're ever in need of someone with a wealth of knowledge in the GIS field.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a solid background in Algebra, including college level math. I learned the old ways of doing math, not the new math being taught today, so some of my methods may be unfamiliar, but they still work and I've remembered them for over 20 years.
I have extensive experience using a variety of computer systems including Windows, Linux and Unix systems. I'm adept with Microsoft Office products and Open Office. I'm experienced with computer hardware and a variety of software including Adobe Illustrator, Socet GXP, ArcGIS, Remote View, ERDAS Imagine and more.
I have extensive experience in using geospatial and remote sensing in support of military and national security interests. My knowledge of world geography and geographic information systems has been developed over the past 23 years supporting military operations and traveling the world.
I have extensive experience using PowerPoint to create briefings and presentations. I can also help with OpenOffice Impress for students looking to build presentations using open source software.
I learned to brief in the military, delivering information briefs generally to senior level audiences. Over the past 20 years however, I've learned how to finesse my public speaking and how to inform, educate and persuade through speech. One of the most valuable lessons I learned during a Navy course on briefing was the concept of VEGA - Voice, Eye Contact, Gestures and ATTITUDE! This is how I have helped other presenters, instructors and briefers improve their delivery and impact during speeches and presentations, and it has worked for me over the years. Whether you are speaking to 10 people or 1,000, the basic concepts are the same, and public speaking is largely about your confidence in subject matter and yourself. That is what makes an effective speaker and presenter.
My experience in world history is rooted in over 20 years of government service and world travel.
