I love to learn, and to help students realize the joy in understanding their world. I was a high school art teacher for 7 years, teaching Studio Art Classes (painting and drawing), as well as Art History. But my own desire to learn recently led me to go back to school to receive my degree in Information Systems Technology, which included programming in Python and Java, HTML and CSS, Photoshop, and Ruby. Having achieved an 800 on my Math SAT, and a 710 on my Verbal, I understand the structure of the SAT test questions, and can assist students in answering SAT questions quickly and accurately. I can tutor math up to pre-Calculus, having earned a 5 on my AP Calculus exam in high school.
I would love to assist you in achieving your goals of fully understanding the subjects with which you're struggling. My approach is never to teach just enough to 'get by', or pass a test. Only true understanding of the interconnectedness of the different subjects, and of how previous knowledge can be built upon with new knowledge, will allow for learning which is permanent and complete. I gauge each student's lesson plans to that student's personal needs, using a personalized approach instead of a 'one size fits all' methodology. Let me help you realize your true potential at a rate which lets you continue to improve without ever becoming overwhelmed.
I received an 800 on my Math SAT, and a 5 on my AP BC Calculus Exam.

Please contact me today and we can start helping you learn how to fully understand the material you want to learn, so that it stays with you for life. Lessons with Lara have quick, positive results. She is informative, talented and easy to work with. We couldn't have been more pleased with her tutoring. I would recommend her highly.
Thank you so much! Working with Niki is a joy - she is so willing to listen, and learn, and is open to all suggestions for improvement. A teacher can only help a student go as far as the student is willing to go, and Niki constantly gives her best.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Having achieved certification to teach Math Grades 5-9, I've demonstrated a thorough understanding of the math covered in those grades, which includes my favorite math subject, Algebra. Because I'm a certified teacher, I know how to discover what a student needs to do or see differently in order to grasp a difficult concept. To me, teaching a student to solve a problem isn't enough. I need to teach my students to understand the theory behind the problems. My goal is to foster comprehension, not just competence.
