I graduated cum laude from the University of Florida Levin College of Law, earning book awards in Criminal Law and Death Penalty Law along the way, and passing the Florida Bar on my first attempt. I love the theory and philosophy of American jurisprudence the way most people love football. After law school I put all those theories into practice at the Public Defender's Office, where I was promoted to the felony division after only 9 months. I handled a caseload of over 200 clients at any given time, and in 18 months accumulated more courtroom experience than most civil attorneys see in a lifetime.
Now I'd like to pass on the benefit of that experience to aspiring law students, or anyone else considering a career in the creation, interpretation, or enforcement of the law. My time at the Public Defender's Office gave me a great deal of experience explaining complex legal ideas in a way that's equally accessible to clients, judges, and jurors alike, so I believe I can assist students at any level of study, from the freshman who's just taking an elective out of curiosity to the law school graduate preparing for their Bar Exam.
I've spent hundreds of hours in court behind a podium, and in that time I've learned how to effectively communicate with audiences ranging from vaguely disinterested to outright hostile. I've run the gauntlet of Bar prep myself already, and passed on my first attempt.
The world needs more good attorneys. Whether you're just considering entering the field, or you're agonizing over your upcoming Bar Exam, I'd be happy to help you with your studies. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I graduated cum laude from UF Levin College of Law, and worked as a Public Defender for 18 months. As a Public Defender, a big part of my job was explaining criminal law and its application to individuals with extremely limited education (clients), as well as to individuals much more qualified than myself (judges). I'm also very familiar with the theory behind criminal jurisprudence, having attained book awards in Criminal Law and Death Penalty Law.
As a Public Defender, I spent allot of time in Court behind a podium arguing for my client's position. My job was to paint my client in the best possible light through effective use of persuasive rhetoric, which involved both monologues and improvised rebuttals.
I was not allowed to choose my clients, and I was required to represent their position, no matter how ridiculous. Thus I've a lot of experience advocating for positions whether I believed in their substance or not.
