About Adrienne

I graduated from the Clinical Teacher Model of Interrelated Areas at Florida State University - with a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science degree in Special Education. Throughout my 30 years as a Special Education Teacher (Miami-Dade County Public Schools) I was certified (Rank II) in the following subjects : Learning Disabilities, Emotionally Disturbed, and Mentally Handicapped (K-12).

I only served as an ESE Teacher, and worked with a variety of students: LD, Autistic, EMH, TMH, PMH, PI, Behavior Disorders, and the Orthopedically Impaired.

The classes that I was placed in were self-contained and also resource rooms, depending on the needs of the students involved. I also served as the Special Education Chairperson for a few years, and was responsible for training 17 ESE coworkers and monitoring IEP meetings.

My mission in life has always been to help others, and I served as a Special Education Teacher ( in Miami ) for 30 years, prior to retiring / relocating to Sarasota.

I truly love teaching, I've worked with many children with a variety of special needs, and I
was certified in learning disabilities, emotionally handicapped, mentally handicapped,
and varying exceptionalities ( K-12 ).

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Dyslexia

When I was a Special Education Teacher in Miami (MDCPS) for 30 years, my specialty was serving
children that were dyslexic. The subject that I taught best was reading, and I had lots of training in using a variety of strategies - so that when I diagnosed each student's learners characteristics, I would be able to implement the appropriate strategy... depending on the child's assets and deficits. (Students that often had reversals, for example, would not do well with a visual approach. Typically, an auditory approach and/or a tactile-kinesthetic strategy would be better.) The training obtained at FSU truly helped me to work with dyslexic students.
