About Edna

When my students write thank you notes or leave a message on my board, this is what I see: "Thanks for helping me to understand my other classes - you are a great reading teacher!" "Ms. S, thank you for showing me how smart I am; I didn't think I was smart

before your English class." "I <3 Ms. S" "I never finish reading books, but you got me interested so I did. I really liked it." "WOOOHOOOO! I passed!!!" These comments, and the many others I have been privileged to receive during my decade as an English teacher

keep me returning for more fun. My love for language and literature prompted my interest in teaching English, but my knowledge of the power of READING was the catalyst behind my extensive training in K-12 reading. Currently a high school English/Language Arts

teacher, I have experience in middle school Language Arts and have tutored students in Reading, grades K-12. My teaching style is both straightforward and easygoing. One of the most interesting things about my line of work is seeing the many personalities,

experiences, and perspectives that every student brings. I value the individual, and I recognize that there is no "One Size Fits All" approach to teaching or learning. Individuals learn in their individual ways, so I pride myself in tutoring to the uniqueness

of every student. This creates a connection to students that makes learning easier. In and out of the classroom, my students know their style is important, appreciated, and valuable. But watch out for HIGH EXPECTATIONS! My expectations are that every student

give her or his personal best, in every assignment or learning opportunity. Whether it's reading comprehension, test prep, vocabulary, reading skills or any of the myriad connections Language Arts makes with history, social studies, word problems or science,

TEAM S - that's me, the TUTOR, and MY STUDENTS - is ready to give it 100%!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
