About Laura

Do you want an experienced, patient and passionate teacher? Of course you do! That's me!

I've been teaching for 30 years and currently run my own music studio with students ranging in age from six to seventy something.

I teach piano, voice, sight singing, theory and ear training. Beginners are most welcome.

My Bachelor's degree was in Music Education K-12. I taught in Middle and High Schools for over 15 years. Subjects included chorus, general music, keyboard, class voice and music theory.

My Master's degree was in Vocal Performance.

Currently I teach piano, voice and music appreciation as adjunct faculty at the State College of Florida.

Since my undergraduate degree was in education I am well trained in reading, writing and its associated skills as well. I am certified as a rater of essays for Educational Testing Services.

It is best that I work out of my home studio because my keyboard, CD recorder, microphone and other resources are there. My schedule also makes travel inefficient.

I help students gain skills and confidence. I look forward to working with you.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Ear Training

My Bachelor's degree was in Music Education. Ear training classes were part of the curriculum. I earned A's in the classes. I taught ear training as part of a Music Theory class at the State College of Florida. I work with my current students on ear training during their lessons.

Piano

My undergraduate major within the Music Education major was piano. I teach piano at a state college. I have been teaching piano professionally since 1987.

Sight Singing

Sight Singing was a part of my undergraduate curriculum, especially as it related to teaching chorus. I taught chorus for 12 years and sight singing was part of the standard class curriculum and was judged at State contests. My choruses always earned at least an excellent. I continue to teach sight singing in my studio. I also taught sight singing as part of the music theory class at the State College of Florida.

Voice (Music)

One of my specializations in my undergraduate Music Education degree was Voice Studies. My Master of Music degree was in vocal performance. I teach Voice at a state college. I have been teaching voice since 1987.
