Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

My composite score on the ACT was a 31, which is in the 97th percentile. I feel more than qualified to instruct in the english and time management principals necessary to succeed on the ACT.

ACT Reading

I scored a 33 on the ACT Reading section when I took the test, which is in the 97th percentile. My composite score was a 31, which is also in the 97th percentile. I feel more than qualified to instruct in the reading and time management principals necessary to succeed on the ACT.

Adobe Flash

In 2010, I became an Adobe Certified Associate in Flash CS3. I have many years of experience with the software, and am prepared to give instructional lessons on the latest version of Flash.

Chess

I have played chess all my life, enjoy the game very much, and consider myself a fairly talented player. I feel that I am qualified to instruct in the playing of the game, as well as in the various strategies in the game.

Drawing

I have been a 2D Studio Artist for five years, have taken numerous studio art and drawing classes throughout my academic career, and feel qualified to instruct in drawing techniques in graphite, charcoal, and pen and ink.

Elementary (K-6th)

I feel qualified to instruct in general K-6 academics because I have previous experience tutoring for primary school, and I am very comfortable working with small children, even those with learning disabilities.

Graphic Design

Having worked as a 2D Studio artist for several years, as well as having interned at the Strategic Coach as a graphic designer, I'm qualified to tutor broadly in the field of graphic design.

Macintosh

I currently own an early 2011 Macbook Pro with Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4. I have learned much about the Macintosh operating system through my experience with this computer and other Macintosh computers in past formal Information Technology courses, and I feel confident that I can help anyone get the most out of their Macintosh computer by helping them gain a functional understanding of the operating system, may it be the latest version of Lion or a past version.

Microsoft Windows

I have used Microsoft Windows 95, 98, Me, XP, Vista, and 7 extensively throughout my many years of computer use, and have taken several IT courses during my academic career. I believe that I am qualified to instruct in the proper usage of any version of the Microsoft Windows OS.

Music Theory

I am a classically trained pianist; I have played the piano for eleven years, nine of which I had formal lessons. I have also taken a formal music theory course. I feel more than qualified to instruct in the principals of music theory.

Piano

I am a classically trained pianist; I have played the piano for eleven years, nine of which I had formal lessons. I have also taken a formal music theory course. I feel more than qualified to instruct in the techniques of piano practice.

Public Speaking

I have much experience with public speaking, having spoken before crowds of several hundred on numerous occasions. I have also taken a course on public speaking. I feel that I am qualified to instruct in the development of a clear speaking voice, good script-writing, and other public speaking techniques.

Sociology

Sociology was one of the focuses of my studies in college. Social Psychology and Sociology are strongly emphasized by the Psychology curriculum at New College of Florida, where I graduated with my BA, majoring in Psychology. My undergraduate dissertation, "Psychodynamic Perspectives on German National Socialism," was an interdisciplinary study utilizing psychology, history, and sociology to examine the complex phenomena surrounding the rise of the Third Reich in Germany. Because of my academic background in Sociology, I believe that it is an area of study in which I am qualified to provide instruction.

Study Skills

While making my way through the public school system, I had to learn proper study skills and habits in order to graduate with a great GPA. I am currently enrolled at New College of Florida, an honors college which employs an academic contract system, forcing students to be extremely self-sufficient by relying on the strength of their own study habits. I feel that my success there is a testament to my academic prowess, and I am confident that I could help any struggling student improve their study skills, giving them the essential tools they need to succeed academically.

Writing

I've done quite a bit of writing in my day, and I've helped a lot of kids improve their writing too. Using basics like spelling, vocabulary, and grammar to more complicated topics like diction, form, and syntax, I'm qualified and able to improve writing at any level!
