I have an enduring love for languages. I grew up fully bilingual, speaking Russian and Ukrainian at the same time. (Hebrew has always been part of my DNA as well!)
Linguistics and cultures of the world constitute an enduring passion of my learning experience. Russian/English/Ukrainian interaction has been an integral part of my professional life for the past 15 years or so. From a freelance translator back in the Ukraine to a Staff Interpreter at a Seminary in Moscow, Russia, to Spiritual Director and ESL Instructor in Washington, DC, Minneapolis, MN and Boston, MA, I have taught these languages to many different audiences.
I have lived long enough on both continents, (27 years in Eurasia and 10 years in North America), to know and understand these variegated cultures in a deep and personal way. The major language of instruction at my first University, the place where I obtained both my Bachelor’s and first Master’s Degrees, was Russian. (The other two were Ukrainian and English). In addition to that I have obtained an MDiv at Wesley Theological Seminary in 2008 (classical Greek and Biblical Hebrew).
In addition to many years of passionate learning and teaching, I still proceed to enhance and broaden my excellence in linguistics and their teaching methods.
My desire is to help those who are willing to know these rich and expressive languages on a level that most public programs simply cannot reach! I have an enduring love for languages. Dmitry is a very pleasant guy, and a fantastic teacher. As a native Russian speaker, Dmitry possesses the rare ability to explain the many intricacies and exceptions found within the language. He is also very dedicated to giving his students compelling lectures and comprehensive lesson plans. His assignments are almost always used to bolster and supplement the material he teaches in class. Most importantly, he realizes that Russian is a difficult language for native English speakers to learn, and he is very compassionate and understanding when his students make mistakes. He speaks around five or six languages himself, so he has certainly been in our situation at some point in his life!
I highly recommend Dmitry for all of your Russian learning needs.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Proper Biblical Studies require an in-depth, impartial examination of both the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament) and the Greek text of the New Testament.
By examining the Scriptural evidence through an inter-textual analysis and by bringing historical, archeological and other relevant evidence to bear on the studies, we should be able to arrive at the biblical truth!
Examining the writing of the Jewish sages, such as Talmud, Mishnah, etc. and learning from the Church tradition and commentaries, enriches our understanding of the text and its nuances. The primary authority in biblical studies, however, belongs in the sacred text itself!
I have received my Master of Divinity Degree at Wesley Theological Seminary in 2008. I am proficient in Classical Hebrew and New Testament Greek Languages. I have taught biblical disciplines for over a decade now.
I am looking forward to learning from the Word of God with all the open-minded and honest students of the Bible!
English is one of my favorite languages! I have studied its intricacies and nuances for many years, having acquired an extensive experience in teaching it along the way.
My experience teaching English to the speakers of other languages includes locales such as Moscow, Russia, Washington, DC, Minneapolis, MN, etc. I haven taught the subject both to individuals and groups of people.
The major focus while teaching English is on the four main areas of learning: Reading Skills, Listening Abilities, Writing Skills and Conversational Competence.
These are based on the foundation of the Language's (1) Grammar; (2) Vocabulary; (3) Idiomatic Expressions.
I have enjoyed a high rate of success in my students' abilities to read, write, speak and understand this rich and beautiful language!
I have near-native fluency in Hebrew, the language of my father's family. I have studied Hebrew at the graduate level at Andrews University, MI, USA. I can teach all levels of Modern Hebrew - from Beginner to Advanced, plus a Conversational Aspect of it as well. I also love the Biblical Hebrew and the powerful spiritual material it carries - the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament).
