My name is Whitney Q., and I am bilingual in Spanish and English. I enjoy tutoring and teaching a variety of subjects to both adults and children. Originally from Buckhead, I attended the Westminster Schools where I began studying Spanish in 6th grade. I continued with it through high school and then graduated from the University of Georgia Cum Laude with 2 degrees, in Education and Spanish. I have taught and tutored all ages including pre-K, elementary, middle, and high school students in both the classroom and in home settings. My most recent project last semester consisted of tutoring a college-level Advanced Spanish course (SPAN 2002) to a UGA student for over 120 hours. I have to say that I am very proud and excited for my student who received a 95.5% in his class and is now a college graduate. I have also taught Spanish and English after-school programs as well as adult language classes as a volunteer through The Latin American Association in Atlanta.
In addition to tutoring Spanish to adults, I enjoy tutoring children in a variety of subjects. Throughout my 15 year tenure working with children, I have provided tutoring on various subjects including elementary math, reading, phonics, and spelling. I currently work for a family in Brookhaven who has two elementary aged students including one with mild dyslexia. These are the principal subjects that we have worked on all year, but I am open to all subjects and ages.
I enjoy tutoring because it enables me to work one on one with students. To me, this gives the student a great advantage over learning in a large classroom setting (although I do have experience there as well). I believe that getting to know a student's personality, study habits, and where their strengths and weaknesses lie is highly effective in assuring their success. Equally important is making sure a student stays on track and learns the subject material according to the way the course is taught. Lastly, it is so rewarding to see student's grades and overall attitude toward a subject improve once he or she learns the subject.
In addition to tutoring, I have many hobbies and am caring, outgoing, funny, compassionate, and intelligent. I also have my own small business. My company is designed to provide care management and life enrichment to the senior population. After working at a large corporate law firm here in Atlanta, I finally decided to start my own company where I could be of service to others. This is what I love to do through care management and teaching/tutoring each client according to his or her specific needs.
I am interested in tutoring in the Athens and Atlanta area. Please note that my resume is more corporate-geared, but I am happy to answer additional questions, explain my experience further, and/or provide additional references.
Thanks for your interest!

Whitney was nice and super accommodating. She was able to help me with my Spanish paper on short notice. She definitely knew her stuff and was very knowledgeable. Will use her again in the future.
Whitney helped me learn the concepts I needed really well for my upcoming Spanish test. She is always patient with you and explains everything very well. I highly recommend her.
Good study session. Whitney made my daughter feel comfortable and at ease. I'm not sure our schedules can be coordinated for future sessions, but I would love for Janie to work with her again if possible.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked on reading, vowels, consonants and sentence formations from children ages pre-K to 8th grade.
