About Sarah

I am a returned Peace Corps volunteer, currently living on Sanibel Island. I have received my statement of eligibility for temporary certification in Biology (grades 6-12). I plan on tutoring and substitute teaching until I find a full-time teaching job.

Through my graduate and undergraduate education, I have gained an extensive background in biological sciences. In 2010, I earned my Bachelor of Science in both Marine Biology and Aquaculture. During graduate school, I geared my coursework for a career in environmental education. I completed certification courses in Project WET and Project Wild and worked on independent projects developing pilot programs for elementary schools and educational materials for students.

My experience as an environmental educator ignited a passion for teaching within me. During my Peace Corps service, I spent most of my time teaching students about environmental conservation in the local high school. I really enjoyed forming connections with the students and helping them to grow both personally and professionally through community volunteering. Before Peace Corps, I worked with elementary school students. I was delighted by their enthusiasm for learning and loved sharing in their discovery of the wonder and beauty of the natural world.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Biology

I have received my Florida Certificate of Eligibility to teach Biology (grades 6-12). Additionally, I have a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology and a Master of Natural Resources in Fisheries. In high school, I took Honors Biology and AP Biology.
