Cal State - San Jose State University (Child Development)
I have worked as a Special Education Paraprofessional for the last 5 years. I have experience in both mainstream general education and resource-classroom environments. I am passionate about helping others and I truly enjoy it. I studied Child and Adolescent Development at San Jose State University, and I also have a degree in Computer Science. I enjoy a wide variety of subjects including reading, writing, science, and history. I have worked extensively with students that needed organizational help.
Recently, my wife and I moved from California to Florida via her job with the United States Army. I've begun the process of getting my Florida teaching credential. Prior to working in public schools, I was a clinician for Lindamood-Bell Learning Services, where I specialized in literacy development. I have coached youth sports. I believe in making learning fun all while setting high goals and expectations. I look forward to hearing from you and working with you to ensure the academic success of your child.
I have experience with students facing a variety of learning challenges. I have helped students challenged by Autism, ADD/ADHD, Dyslexia, Executive Functioning Disorders, Socio-emotional factors, behavior issues, and many other learning disabilities.
History and Social Studies have always been a favorite of mine. I enjoy turning lessons into ideas that can be visualized and transferring those into effective notes.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have experience with high school special education. I worked for the Campbell Union High School District for three years as a paraprofessional. I also spent 2 years in the Mountain View Los Altos Union High School District as an instructional assistant in the special education department. During my time in Campbell, I was a 1-to-1 paraprofessional for a student with Cerebral Palsy.
For over 5 years, I have worked as a paraprofessional and private tutor. I have assisted both mainstream and special education teachers. During my time at these positions, I was responsible for verifying that students' work was up to date and completed. I had access to their grades and assignments. When students fell behind, it was up to me to meet with them and discuss plans to help them organize and complete their work. This often meant that I would work with students on special projects and anything they needed to complete to catch up. We also came up with plans so that these instances would happen occur less often in the future.
