About Irene

Wordsmith, communications engineer, technology interface, all learning starts with identifying the questions. A fun test prep is giving my students the answer so they get to figure out the question! The really fun part is how surprised they are when they know the answer the next time they see the question!

I have 500 plus days substitute teaching in Hampton City Schools VA, and about the same from Monterey County CA. I hold an English Teaching Credential English, CA, as well as a , Clear Cross-cultural, Language and Academic Development Certificate, CA. I have two years of experience at the middle school level where I taught honors English, all language and literature, honors history, and social studies for (160) 7th graders, and English Language Development for (80) 6th, 7th, 8th graders.

Crafting, reading, keeping in touch and helping out my family and friends describes me. I am always learning, conscious and reflective of the need to solve problems. How may I help you?

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Spelling

Ah! Spelling! It's not that hard, and the funny thing is, you'd be surprised at who gets tripped up by it! Word families, context clues for the homonyms (words that sound the same but are spelled differently) and content area for technical language. If you want to study language we can step into my favorite, derivatives--word origins. That's maybe next year.
Thank you for enjoying words,
Irene S.
