Currently, I am teaching 5th grade math and science at an elementary school in Tampa. I have graduated from Lyndon State College with a double major in Elementary Education and Liberal Studies along with a minor in Psychology. I have received my Professional Certificate for grades K-8 issued by the State of Maine and a K-6 certificate issued by the state of Florida.
I am considered a highly qualified educator. In addition, I received my Masters degree in Education with a Literacy concentration from the University of New England in 2007. Through this program, I have developed a website that that showcases some of the lessons and strategies I use daily in my classroom. Lastly, I have received my Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Educational Leadership through the University of New England. I have been teaching for 12 years and have tutored students in grades K-8 for 8 years.
I have been teaching math for 12 years at various grades levels. Throughout those years I have taught many different math programs and have attended many professional development workshops in which I have learned how to teach struggling math students. I have also attended professional development opportunities to learn how to teach the new Common Core State Standards in Math and ELA so that I can properly help my students be successful in math and ELA.
Since I have been teaching for 12 years and have been through many reforms and standard changes, I understand the challenges students go through and the amount of pressure that is placed on students today. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been teaching for 12 years. I have my state certification for K-8 in Maine and grades K-6 in Florida. I am considered a highly qualified teacher in both Florida and Maine.
