About Antoinette

Hi students! I am new to the tutoring arena, but come from a long line of educators. I like to think that it is in my blood, but something I haven't pursued just yet. From a young age, I wanted to be an art teacher. With a mother who specialized in Career and Technical Education, she encouraged me to think outside the box and pick a career focused on learning an employable skill.

After lots of thought, I chose to study Interior Design at the University of Florida College of Design, Construction, and Planning. The program was interdisciplinary, so not only was I exposed to Interior Design, but I was able to cultivate skills in art, architecture, building construction, and graphic design. Most importantly, I was able to dive head first into the abyss of software out there, as well as practice my hand sketching, model building, rendering, and all sorts of presentation techniques.

My goal with tutoring is to instill the importance of learning a skill and being able to translate that expertise into the workplace. It is key to recognize that once you know the principles of design and have software training, the sky is truly the limit. I now practice as a professional graphic designer, but would have never known that was my passion unless I started my career in Architecture and Interior Design. I found myself more intrigued with typography and laying out presentations instead of the building environment, but still love all forms of design all the same. I want to help you realize your potential too.

With extensive background in Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop, as well as experience with Microsoft Office and AutoCad, I am ready to help you take your creativity to the next level. Because I am a working design professional, I keep up with current trends in design and will take utter care when reviewing any project or homework you have. I have a knack for these programs and have been working with them on Mac/PC platforms for over a decade.

Anyone can be an artist, but what's most important to realize in this day and age is that if art is your passion, how can you make it a career? If you are already studying design of some kind, software training will help you reel your talents in so you can manipulate your art into printed materials, resumes, business cards, flyers, websites, and beyond. Improve your grades with a keener eye for design and bettering your ability to do whatever homework or project comes your way.

At this time, I am generally available Monday through Friday and even on the occasional weekend. I reside in St. Petersburg, but am available for tutoring throughout Pinellas and Hillsborough counties. I would also like to extend my services to the Orlando and Sarasota regions, but may charge an extra travel fee. An ideal session for me would be handling specific questions that the student might have. Bring your projects and questions from class -- we can address them head on. We can meet at a computer lab, coffeeshop, or any where that will be suitable to do some real hands on learning.

I look forward to helping you in your creative studies!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe InDesign

For the past seven years in my graphic design profession, I was tasked with designing in InDesign, even more so than the other Adobe products, because our in-house personalization system for our e-commerce website used software that was only compatible with InDesign. Therefore, I probably did more than what was typically done with InDesign that some might actually perform in Illustrator instead. I was also tasked with creating hundreds of catalog pages for our product line. Each designer does it differently, and we each have our own tips and tricks that are handy and useful. I think I have a solid handle on teaching this software to the best of my ability.
