I am currently living in Saint Petersburg, Florida. I teach 3rd grade at a local Charter school. In previous years I have taught 5th grade for 3 years and 3rd grade for 2 years. Teaching is my passion and is what lead me to earn my Master's in Curriculum and Instruction in May 2015.
I have years of training from the Escambia County School District in Pensacola, Florida on teaching struggling readers. I have come to love teaching reading and teaching students how to become a better reader. Tutoring will allow me to help children who may need extra support outside of the general education classroom and one-on-one instruction.
I have taught students for years who are at least 2 years below grade in the past. With the use of direct and engaging instruction several of my students were able to make a year's worth of learning gains if not more. I differentiate the instruction by using videos, interactive notebook activities, and math manipulatives during instructions. Students enjoy math we they have a visual and hands-on experience.
As a child, I struggled with comprehending what I have read. This struggle has turned into a huge benefit for me and for my students. Over the years, I have learned to use pre-reading strategies, during reading strategies to help guide me through a text. I implement these same strategies in my classroom and 100% of my students have increase their ability to analyze and understand high complexity text.
Common Core is mainly structured around student engagement and critical thinking. During instruction I allow my students to interact with the texts and math concepts. They are responsible for their learning and they are confident learners. I require that they provide proof or evidence when giving answers. I allow for collaborative conversations to take place in the classroom.
I am an outstanding tutor because just like in my classroom, I make learning fun, relatable, and engaging for the student.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught in the Florida school system for 5 years. During my graduate work and in my field, I was required to teach and analyze the Common Core standards.
