About Desiree

My teaching methodology parallels the well known proverb "Give a person a fish, food for a day. Teach a person to fish, food for a lifetime." My goal is to help students become aware of recurring excellence and challenges. When a student is aware of their own common mistakes they can take an active role in finding solutions.

With 9 years of teaching experience, I've always had a passion for teaching, which I started early in my college education. I've had the pleasure to work with struggling students (K-6) in the Indianapolis Public School system. Meeting at least once a week allowed me to develop a curriculum specifically for each student and their learning style.
As a Writing Fellow at Indiana University I worked one-on-one with undergraduates and graduates to improve their academic papers. I am currently a part-time professor at the University of Tampa. I am a dedicated instructor that looks for the best possible way to improve a student's skills over the long term.

I am experienced with Reading, Critical Analysis, Writing (academic -thesis driven, creative, instructional), Literature, Grammar, Art History, and all citation.

If you always seem to struggle with your writing, I am the tutor for you. I not only have 9+ years of experience, I was trained through a semester long course at Indiana University to make better writers, who make better papers. I've worked in higher education for the past 3 years but would love to work one-on-one with K-12 students to provide them fundamental resources early on.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have earned my B.F.A. and M.F.A. I have worked in K-12 schools in Indiana as a Reading and Math Coach (3 years) through America Reads program. I currently work in higher education throughout the year but during the summer I work with K-12 programs facilitated by University of South Florida.

English

I trained for a semester as a writing fellow at Indiana University. The program focused on understanding language, sentence and paragraph structure as well as creative and unique approaches to using the English language effectively.

Writing

I have earned my B.F.A. and M.F.A. with final thesis driven papers. I trained in a semester long program at Indiana University Writing Center to be an educated and helpful writing tutor. I worked at the University Writing Center for 3 years before relocating. I worked with both undergraduate and graduate students to better their papers.

Great tutor with lots of patience!

When I first contacted Desiree, I was ready to give up on the class I was taking. The lack of research that I was able to find had me very frustrated. I had not been successful in starting any of my paper and it was due in only a few days when I decided to hire Desiree. She was patient with me, very down to earth, and with her help and us working together, I was able to finish the paper in time
