About Debra

I became a teacher because I believe in the future. I want my students to feel confident in themselves, in their subjects of learning, and relationships with others. I have 10 years experience as a classroom teacher. I have also tutored grades K-5, and taught in classrooms pre-K through high school totaling 17 years.

I retired in 2012, however, I am still teaching middle school sewing in a volunteer capacity on Tuesday afternoons. I will do whatever it takes to achieve success tutoring my students.

I am ESOL certified. My inservice workshops include: Just Read Florida, Harcourt Reading, Reading Mastery, FCAT Reading, and
Phono-grafix.

I have tutored 3, 4, 5th graders in Title I schools preparing for Common Core assessments.

I believe in you. There are seven intelligences: Visual, interpersonal, mathematical, spacial, kinetic, intrapersonal, and musical. We all have something that distinguishes us. Which one are you?

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
