Hello! I am a certified (grades 1-6) teacher. I have been teaching for 17 years and tutoring for 5. I love getting to know students on a one to one basis. Learning their strengths and weaknesses to better help them in school. Once learning what makes them "tick", what interests them, and what doesn't work, I will use these things to show them how learning can be fun.
As a teacher, I view my students as complete individuals. I do not see them as just the learner. I realize that in order to really help them exceed in school and life, we need to connect as people. I want all my students (in school and tutoring) to gain confidence in themselves as learners and leave me with a thirst and excitement to learn more. Many children hit a wall, close off from seeing what they are capable of.
As a teacher and mother of two elementary aged children, i see the stress and anxiety in parent's and children's faces daily. With the way education is changing and expectations getting more and more difficult, children are losing their excitement to learn. This changes their outlook on school, learning, and themselves. I hope that every student I work with can find their strengths, be aware of their weakness and learn tools to overcome any barriers they have to always want to grow in life.
I look forward to working with your child and showing them that they are capable little learners! :-)
I learn what each child is interested and use that interest to engage them in reading and learn the skills they need to become a better reader.
I have taking numerous trainings on common core practices the last three years and incorporated these skills in my daily instruction.
I have taught elementary school for 17 years, learning and experiencing the change in curriculum throughout our state.
I find the child's weakness in phonics and use different strategies to help them overcome them.
I am excited to watch children grow and become more eager learners, to hear from parents that their child is excelling in school and the battles no longer exist. Hello! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
